A new trailer for Wicked was released. Based on the hit stage musical of the same name, the upcoming movie tells a twisted version of the wizard of oz Focusing On the unlikely friendship between two witches, Elphaba and Glinda. WickedThe leading cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Keala Settle, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. It is directed by Jon M. Chu and is set for release on November 22.
Now, the official Bad movie page has released a new trailer for the movie adaptation. Check it out below:
The trailer opens with the announcement that “The Wicked Witch of the West is dead.” Then, the narrator Glinda continues to tell the story, going back to when she and Elphaba first met. A softer side of Elphaba, illustrating her journey down the Yellow Brick Road to the mighty pop ballad of “Defying Gravity.” The New footage hints at the bond between the two leads and a look at some of the side characters, including the Wizard and Madame Morrible.

Wicked has big shoes to fill.
Like the others Wicked Trailers, this final look at the Musical heavy emphasizes the song “Defying Gravity.” The pop music take on the Broadway song is particularly evident, adding a highly-produced quality to Erivo’s outstanding vocals. “Defying Gravity” is the most memorable song of the Wicked stage musical, so it makes sense that the movie would want to strongly emphasize its significance.

The stage musical version was praised for its overall production quality, most notably the scenic design, for which it was nominated for a Tony. The Trailer shows that the film version puts great effort into replicating the set design to the best of its ability. The yellow brick road looks pretty bright against the highly saturated colors of the scenery.
Hopefully, these factors will make it so Wicked Can live up to the high expectations of the stage musical. It was nominated for ten Tony Awards after its release, winning three. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth’s leading performances are often considered some of the best of 21st century Broadway, putting particular emphasis on Firth Grand and Menzel. However, this Wicked Trailer is a promising sign that the upcoming film may be up to the task, with the synergy already evident.
