Elliott Gould’s role as lawyer Lincoln proves he should return for future Ocean films
Gould could reunite with Clooney and Pitt in rumored fourth film
Despite only appearing on screen for a few minutes per episode, Elliott Gould’s performance in Lincoln’s lawyer was memorable and proved that he should return to Ocean franchise. Gould clearly could still be the mastermind behind a complex heist. Unfortunately, because he appears older than he did in the previous films, it is unlikely that Gould will appear as Reuben Tishkoff in the rumors. Ocean’s Eleven prequel. Regardless, he could be incorporated as Reuben Tishkoff in future films in the franchise.
It was recently reported that George Clooney and Brad Pitt may return for a new Ocean film. While it’s unclear how many of his former co-stars from the original three films will return, Gould would be a key cast member to make an appearance, as he holds importance to Clooney and Pitt’s characters.
Does Elliot Gould have any other characters similar to these roles?
The actor’s filmography is full of intriguing characters
The connection between Lincoln’s lawyer and the Ocean movies is fun for fans to seek out, but it’s also a testament to how effective Elliott Gould is at playing this type of character. While there are perhaps no examples of characters so similar to these two roles, several roles in his career have included elements seen in David “Legal” Siegel and Reuben Tishkoff.
One of the roles that Gould is probably best known for among a certain demographic is Jack Geller in Friends. As Ross and Monica’s father, Gould once again provides that older, wiser mentor character, always available to advise and help his children.. Of course, Jack is a much lighter character, while also being much sillier than the two more self-assured mentors he played.
Ray Donovan is a nastier version of the criminal world, with the titular character operating as a fixer for powerful people. Gould has a memorable recurring role in the series as Ezra Goldman, once again playing a mentor of sorts to the protagonist.. Ironically, Gould plays Ezra as a much softer, gentler figure than in Lincoln’s lawyer and Ocean films, but he’s also willing to do dark things to get the job done. It’s fun to see the different ways Gould can interpret this archetype and make it feel fresh.
