The last half The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom focuses heavily on achieving the Triforce, known in the game as Prime Energy. However, there is also a strong reference to the Triforce hiding in plain sight throughout the game, first appearing long before the Prime Energy itself is revealed. The inclusion demonstrates how much thought the developers put into smaller aspects of the game’s design, and could even be considered a fun way to foreshadow the divine artifact’s later importance to the plot.
Echoes of Wisdom sees the Triforce finally returning to a prominent position in the franchise, even if Prime Energy’s broader lore and behavior are somewhat obscured. Despite this, it is worth noting that Triforce still maintains a more subtle presence in other recent gains. There are indications that Princess Zelda may possess the entire Triforce in Tears of the Kingdomfor example. However, EoW undoubtedly created one of the strongest Triforce references to date.
Echoes Of Wisdom NPCs form a secret Triforce
An unmistakable reference to the Triforce is made in the castle’s throne room
Interestingly, the King of Hyrule in Echoes of Wisdom and his two advisors can be seen as representing a part of the Triforceboth in terms of personal attributes and color associations. The King himself, a ruler dressed mostly in red, is a perfect representative of Power. Likewise, the erudite, blue-haired Minister Lefte can be seen as the personification of Wisdom, and the unwavering General Wright, who wears green-trimmed armor, demonstrates much Courage.
The reference to the Triforce is most apparent when these NPCs are seen together in the throne room, where they are typically positioned in a triangular formation. But beyond that, they act in a manner befitting their associated Triforce piece. For example, Wright unhesitatingly rescues the people of Castle Town as the rifts threaten to consume them all, a clear display of Courage. In fact, in the absence of Zelda, Link and Null, they would probably be ideal holders of the Triforce aspects.
The King’s Triforce only works from his perspective
The Royal Trio’s Triforce appears to be inverted
Of course, it should be noted that From the player’s perspective, this Triforce symbolism is not entirely perfect. As their names imply, Lefte and Wright stand to the King’s left and right, which to the player puts them on the wrong sides of the room. As a result, Courage and Wisdom can be seen represented to the left and right of the triangular formation respectively, when in fact they should be the other way around.
However, this is only from the player’s perspective; for the King of Hyrule, Wisdom and Courage are in the correct order. Even the names Lefte and Wright can be seen as an allusion to this; in addition to being on the left and right of the King, they also embody the left and right sides of the Triforce. Although this complicates the reference compared to Zelda secrets, like The Wind AwakenerIn the hidden image of the Triforce itself, the clear level of detail is still proof that the parallels with the Triforce are far from a coincidence.
The way the King of Hyrule and his closest allies form their own Triforce shows how much thought went into crafting the world of Hyrule. Echoes of Wisdom. The obvious directional puns of Minister Lefte and General Wright’s names are just the tip of the iceberg, and the added layer of meaning makes their designs even more interesting. Primordial Energy may be the most obvious expression of the Triforce in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdombut this smaller representation of the divine artifact is a fun addition to the game in its own right.
