Dwayne Johnson may finally be returning to the Fast and Furious saga, but its other big franchise revival looks more fun. Johnson seemed primed for stardom during his WWE days, but most of his main outlets, such as The summary they never became big hits. His film career changed forever thanks to his supporting role as Hobbs in Five quickwhich reappeared in the next three Fast and Furious films. Of course, Johnson’s off-screen feud with co-star Vin Diesel and subsequent exit from the main series became headlines.
This clash of egos became great fodder for the media, but in truth, Johnson was doing just fine without the series. Dwayne Johnson’s movies became a license to print money for a while – but he never found a series to replace it Fast and Furious. That’s what caused his shock Fast special participation, such a pleasant surprise, that it constituted a return to the main saga and a solo film. However, the disappointment that greeted the tenth inning poured cold water on the property’s future.
Hobbs’ Fast and Furious return isn’t as exciting as another Dwayne Johnson film Jumanji
Jumanji’s Return Looks More Fun Than Fast 11
Fast was incredibly expensive (budget estimates put it at $378 million) but only recouped $704 million (via Mojo Box Office); the reviews weren’t much better. Despite the overworked cast and bombastic action, the tenth entry felt tired. Hobbs’ return should have seemed like a big deal, but in the wake of Black Adam 2022 failure, seemed like a smart deal instead, move through Johnson. What is most exciting is the belated return of Jumanji film series, with the third in the Johnson-led series confirmed to arrive in December 2026.
The last exit was Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, which grossed an impressive $801 million. It’s a surprise that it’s taken this long for the lucrative franchise to return, though considering how busy Johnson and the cast have been, perhaps a seven-year wait would be fair. It can be argued that Jumanji It’s a better suit for Johnson than Hobbs; This plays to his strengths as an action star and a comedic performer, and he compares perfectly to co-stars Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan.
Xander “Smolder” Bravestone allows Dwayne Johnson to unleash his full charm as an artist in a way that another Fast and Furious simply can’t.
If anything, the character seen in Hobbs and Shaw barely resembled the one introduced in Five quick and felt more like a generic Dwayne Johnson action hero. Hobbs’ future appearances could fix that, but regardless, a new Jumanji the movie seems like the more fun option. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone allows Johnson to unleash his charms as an artist, in a different way Fast and Furious I simply can’t.
Rock’s return to Fast and Furious is still confusing more than a year after Fast X’s post-credits scene
Hobbs’ return is a not-so-fast-and-furious affair
Universal is clearly concerned about the lukewarm response to Fast. This signaled that the films were not as popular as they used to be, and the inflated budget only compounded this disappointment. More than a year later, it’s still unclear when or how Johnson’s Hobbs will return. X fast The credits scene set up a showdown between Hobbs and Jason Momoa’s villain Dante Reyes, but those plans have apparently changed. Additionally, instead of two more planned sequels, Fast and Furious 11 is set to be the last official entry in the main series.
Johnson’s standalone film was rumored to be Hobbs & Reyes, although there have been no official updates on this spinoff since it was announced.
The upcoming sequel should scale back and approach the tone of the previous films as well. It’s still unclear how Hobbs fits into this, though it appears Dante won’t be the main antagonist in the next film right now. Johnson’s independent film was considered Hobbs & Reyesalthough there have been no official updates since it was announced. The excitement over Johnson’s return now seems premature, as it has become clear that the saga’s overseers had no clear roadmap in mind for Hobbs’ future.
At this stage, it seems like the next film should just be Hobbs and Shaw 2 instead of as the highlight of the previous solo film was the chemistry between Johnson and co-star Jason Statham. A direct sequel could still feature Momoa’s Reyes as the villain – and perhaps even wrap up the story so that Fast 11 has a clean record.
Hobbs in Fast 11 is great, but Jumanji is the franchise rock was looking for
Dwayne Johnson finally found a series to call his own
Black Adam the failure was a humbling moment for its star, who had big plans for the DCU’s introduction before its big reboot. There are many possible Dwayne Johnson franchises, but despite sequels like Red Warning or Jungle Cruise having been discussed, nothing happened yet. Hobbs returning to Fast 11 It would be great, but the series isn’t Johnson’s either. This just leaves you with Jumanji – which is how it should be.

These are big, broad adventure films that appeal to the whole family and best fit Johnson’s brand. The incredible success of previous entries only confirms this, so Jumanji should be Johnson’s priority over other potential series. He ticks all the boxes he looks for as a movie star – and they simply suit him better than people like Red Warning or even the Fast and Furious films.
