Dune: Prophecy Season 2 – Will it happen? Everything we know

Max’s epic prequel series Dune: Prophecy explores the early period of the beloved sci-fi franchise, but will the origins of the Bene Gesserits continue in Season 2? Developed for film by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, Prophecy loosely adapts the book series by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, which explores the early periods of each of the major houses of the Dune franchise. More specifically, Dune: Prophecy concerns the rise of the Bene Gesserit sect and how they assumed control over the events of the universe more than 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ rise to power.

With the heady and complex history of Dune franchise as a backdrop, Dune: Prophecy is following in the footsteps of other HBO hits like Game of Thrones. Considering the multitude of events that could be investigated by the series, there is no reason to think that Prophecy It will be a complete miniseries. Planting seeds (just like the Bene Gesserits themselves) throughout the first season’s story, it becomes clear that there are projects to transform Dune: Prophecy in the franchise’s next great epic to rival contemporaries like Dragon House and Rings of Poweralthough it is from the science fiction genre.

SCHAPKER: We have a plan and they’re eager to hear everything.

GOLDBERG: They want it to be character-driven, they want it to be thought-provoking, and they just asked us to make it constantly surprising and propulsive and visually stunning. When you say the word Dune, Dune demands large-scale filmmaking. HBO, Max, Legendary, they never told us to back off. They always told us to push and make it an epic, and that’s what we did.

OLIVIA WILLIAMS: They also say they didn’t destroy the set in Hungary, so that’s always a good sign.

WILLIAMS: A 10,000-year plan. Timothée was born.

SHAPKER: That’s so right. We have plans within plans in every sense, measured in centuries. No, I mean, we do. It won’t be news that our program revolves around the Bene Gesserit, but when they are called the Brotherhood, then we are in this kind of fledgling organization, and so how do they become Bene Gesserit? This is a multi-season journey, and this is the story we want to tell.

GOLDBERG: Your movements are generational. They’re in the long game, so there’s a lot of story to tell.

The modern era of TV production has completely changed the formula, and what was once a cost-conscious business that relied on low-risk, high-reward programs and multi-billion dollar investments has become the norm. As seen with surefire hits like Dragon House and Rings of Powereven high viewership numbers can put a series at risk if the numbers aren’t high enough.

Considering the cost of the prequel, anything other than a record number of viewers will likely spell doom for the Dune series.

Based on what has been said about the great scope of Dune: ProphecyIt’s clear that the development of the Bene Gesserit and the beginning of their epic designs are just part of the prequel’s larger story. This means season two has literally 10 millennia of story to incorporate if you want to move forward. It could also remain with the Harkonnen sisters as they continue their work, or perhaps open the door for more big houses to get involved as well.

However, it is impossible to speculate on what exactly will happen next. Dune: Prophecy Season 2 until the full scope of the premiere is known. It’s entirely possible that the season will reveal what the future plans are and make it clear whether viewers will stick with Emperor Javicco Corrino and the Harkonnen sisters or jump to some other point in the timeline as established in the previous novels.
