In Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remakeplayers have the option to reclassify party members into other vocations. This is done so that players can try out new skills and create incredibly strong characters. Multiclassing characters will make them much stronger than maintaining a vocation all the time, as they will have access to more skills and have higher stats.
Each time a character changes vocation, they are reset to level one and their stats are halved. However, they retain all skills and spells learned in their previous vocation that can be used in their new vocation. As such, even if they are starting at level one again, they will have much higher stats than a standard level one character recruited in DQ3 HD-2D remake.
How to Multiclass Vocations
Change at Alltrades Abbey
To multiclass your party members into one of 10 different DQ3 Vocations, players will need to have gone to the Alltrades Abbey location. It is located north of the city of Baharata, and the main story will take you there to obtain Black Pepper for the king of Portoga. Players must reach level 20 in their first vocation before they can multiclass into a different Vocation. I recommend waiting a lot longer to multiclassas many vocations still have many skills to unlock after level 20.
Waiting to change your Vocation will be worth it in the long run, as you can’t go back to your original Vocation without having to level up again.
All vocations have incredibly strong skills and spells that will not be unlocked until players reach at least level 40, with some vocations requiring a level as high as 45. For example, the Gadabout vocation doesn’t unlock its ultimate ability, Channel Anger, until level 45, which increases all magical attacks by 50%. To make the most of a vocation change, players should plan out what abilities they want for their party members in order to have a fun and strong combination.
Best Multiclass Vocations
So many combinations
There are dozens of different class combinations that players can try, with some being more effective than others. Dragon Quest 3The Sage Vocation is often considered the strongest class in Dragon Quest, which can be freely changed to Vocation Gadabout without a Words of Wisdom book. However, Gadabouts are incredibly weak on the battlefield, so be prepared to essentially have one party member dead weight on the first leg of the journey.
The following table presents some good examples of which vocations complement others when changed to:
Old Vocation |
New Vocation |
Skill Synergies |
---|---|---|
Gadabout |
Wise |
Extremely high luck stat means Sage spells with critical hits often land. |
Wizard |
Warrior |
A Warrior with a variety of offensive and utility spells that make them incredibly versatile in combat. |
Burglar |
Martial Artist |
Extreme Agility means the Martial Artist can utilize Thief OHKO moves at the start of combat. |
Warrior |
Priest |
A priest with warrior skills who can reliably heal himself and become a damage sponge. |
Players must ensure that the skills obtained in the first Vocation match well with those of the second Vocation, or the vocational change will not be as effective. For example, a Warrior has no reliable ways to deal elemental damage, which the Mage Vocation can explain. The Thief Vocation doesn’t do as much damage as other Vocations, but it has a number of utility skills that can be incredibly useful for a Martial Artist with high Agility. It’s very easy to become incredibly strong, so let loose and have fun with your group members.
After the player changes their characters’ vocations, they will have to level them up to catch up with the rest of the group. The upside is that they will level up faster than before and there are some notable locations to level them up quickly. The first of these locations is the Tower of Transcendence, located north of Alltrades Abbey. Metal Slimes can be found here and are in abundance on the 5th floor of the dungeon. Grinding characters can be tedious, but it’s worth it in the end Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
