Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #10!Dragon Ball Daima has just changed everything with the revelation of the origins of the multiverse. The new information raises some serious questions about Daimacompatibility with Dragon Ball Superhowever.
Upon reaching the Second Demon World, Goku's group soon encountered the Namekian homeworld, where they chose to rest while waiting for Vegeta's group to catch up. While on the Namekian homeworld, Supreme Kai recounted the creation of reality as they know it. The Demon Realm apparently existed before the multiverse, which was only created when a super majin named Rymus was asked to expand the majins' domain. This led to the creation of several universes, and people from the Demon Realm began to pass through the gates into these new universes.
The Demon Realm predates the Multiverse
The Demon Realm is Unbelievably Ancient
The first important information to be gleaned from the Supreme Kai's description is that the Demon Realm is, in fact, older than any of the universes that make up the Demon Multiverse. Dragon ball. Long before there was a Universe 7, there was the Demon Realm. The Demon Realm is functionally independent of the multiverse, which was only created to provide more territory for the inhabitants of the Demon Realm.. Given that universes have existed for billions of years, the Demon Realm must be incredibly old to already have a long and storied history at this point.
This offers some explanation on certain points. For example, how the Namekians came to exist in Universe 6 as well as 7: both populations were actually diasporas of the original Namekian population in the Demon Realm. The long-lived Glind also came from the Demon Realm and became the Kais who rule every Universe in the multiverse. These Kai are specially chosen, although it is not yet clear who selects them.
Is Daima's origin story Retcon Super?
Daima has some clarifications to make
DaimaThe new origin of the multiverse is interesting, but it raises some questions about how the multiverse was portrayed in Super. Grand Zeno, notably, is not mentioned in the origins of the multiverse, despite being the God of all things in Superand having been implied to occupy that role for a long time. If Rymus was a majin who created the multiverse, then where did Grand Zeno come from? How did he end up in command of the multiverse and have such devastating power?
At first sight, DaimaRymus' origin story appears to reflect Grand Zeno and the cosmology seen in Super. However, at no point is it said that Grand Zeno created the multiverse; it's just stated that he rules over it, so there's no inherent conflict here. It is possible that Zeno already existed as a god of the Demon Realm, or that Zeno only existed when the Multiverse existed. Although it doesn't need to be a retcon, Dragon Ball Daima absolutely needs to clarify how Zeno relates to the Multiverse.
