Dragon Ball Daima’s fights are a huge change for the franchise, and I for one am absolutely loving it

Dragon Ball DAIMA is an intriguing addition to the fall 2024 anime conversation thanks to its clear recognition of what made Akira Toriyama’s series great while introducing it to new worlds and even remixing familiar ideas. The series succeeds with a constant look at what has worked previously in the series, while also bringing radical twists to lore and even exciting new takes on the series’ combat. I like what Dragon Ball DAIMA He did with his struggles, mainly because he recognizes what worked, but is not content with playing the successes.

Goku’s adventures in the Demon Realm in Dragon Ball DAIMA were bound to be a strange journey thanks to Gomah’s desire for Shenron to shrink him and his friends, along with a series of mobility and physiological changes brought about by the transformation. They force Goku to fight with more limited abilities, reverting him to his original skill set. Dragon Ball. Even so, he remains a Saiyan child with decades of training and combat muscle memory. This provides the recipe for especially new combat scenarios in Dragon Ball DAIMA.

Each new episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA features varied and dynamic combat

One-on-one fights appear to be shelved for now

Despite the first episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA introducing a fun fight between Goku and Vegeta, subsequent episodes featured widely varying combat scenarios for Goku and Glorio. Episode 3, the first proper fight, takes Goku, Shin, and Glorio to a seedy bar where they are attacked by Goku’s non-demonic heritage, at which point A messy but exciting bar fight breaks out, unlike many of Toriyama’s open-air affairs. Episode 4 takes the fights outdoors as Goku rescues Panzy from being overpowered by Gomah’s minions in a tight alley.

Whole portions of Dragon Ball DAIMA The episodes are dedicated to explaining the various nerfs to Goku’s powers, such as the heavier air restricting movement and flight, meaning he can’t fight like he used to, even after getting used to maneuvering his shorter limbs in the air. episode 2. This leads Goku to think for himself and re-evaluate his fighting IQ, using improvised weapons and the surrounding environment. in the bar fight. When he has more freedom to breathe in episode 4, he uses his Nyoibo with mesmerizing efficiency. It’s a strong reminder of Goku’s ancient past Dragon ball days.

Although Goku will inevitably regain his Super Saiyan form, unleash his Kamehameha, and likely use other tricks like Instant Transmission, I like him deploying even the most mundane tricks in his repertoire first. Dragon Ball DAIMA there was never a static one-on-one fight where the animation turns into quick exchanges of fists or uninteresting battles like Gohan, Krillin and Vegeta against Frieza’s henchmen. From both real fights so far in Dragon Ball DAIMA and even teases about Glory’s marksmanship against bad guys in episode 3, even anonymous minions are exciting and worthy opponents for Goku.

Do I spy a Nimbus return?

Dragon Ball DAIMA Goku using his Power Pole

I was pleased to see the return of a mix of Dragon Ball Z and original Dragon ball concepts, even with a hint of Dragon Ball Super tradition, showing how Goku would adjust to his child form. With a reduced power level and a regressive understanding of your flying abilities, Goku even brings back the Nyoibo to remove his range disadvantage, as seen in episode #2, which is used on Master Roshi’s clothes drying rack. This shows Dragon Ball DAIMA takes Goku’s limited abilities seriously as he returns to the basics.

It also means I can watch each episode with giddy anticipation of any other returning techniques and other relics from the original. Dragon ball. As seen in the opening credits, viewers can easily spot an adult Goku riding his Flying Nimbus alongside the series’ various Demon Realm planes, a fun potential throwback and a genuinely plausible solution to the heavy air problem. Whether this will be followed by more obscure relics like the Bansho Fan of Dragon ball chapter #13, or Bending Kamehameha from chapter #157 is both an unknown and a welcome possibility.

Varied fights in Dragon Ball DAIMA make series speculation fun

Preemptive fan theory humor with each new episode

I really like speculating based on what is already known and what could happen in the manga and anime; I do this quite often, like in Saitama’s likely future fight with God and the implications of a multiverse in Boruto. In Dragon Ball DAIMAwith the first glimpses of Goku and Vegeta regaining their Super Saiyan forms despite still being children, Toei Animation didn’t make my job difficult and, more importantly, made each Friday’s release a highlight of the week.. Seeing Goku and Glorio’s first fights is exciting, and I’m genuinely curious to see if Shin will throw down the gauntlet as well.

Seeing the series’ fights take on a more physically involving approach shows how he will adjust and calibrate before facing larger enemies like Tamagamis.

Akira Toriyama Dragon ball The timeline is confusing, but DAIMA position gives easy answers that anyone can guess, like whether the good guys will win and whether the Demon Realm poses a threat in the future. But seeing the series’ fights take on a more physically involved approach, with Goku using the Nyoibo as a tool to entirely maneuver around his enemies, teases how he will adjust and calibrate before facing larger enemies like Tamagamis. With Glorio being able to fly despite not understanding Ki, Dragon Ball DAIMA is a series that encourages fans to study it.

Dragon Ball DAIMA can solve my complaint about overloaded fights

Five minutes in the Frieza saga, the time is three hours

Goku and Frieza from Dragon Ball

Being a child of the nineties raised on shōnen manga like Dragon ball and naruto, I can’t avoid very long fights, with Dragon Ball Z be among the offenders most worthy of complaint. I’ll never forget when Frieza said that Goku had five minutes to fight before Namek exploded, where a pretty serious time dilation of the anime occurred, dragging on for another eight episodes on top of an already heated fight. Dragon Ball DAIMA There are still too many episodes to make me swallow the following words, but it seems that the new anime gets around these pacing problems.

But that doesn’t mean that long fights aren’t worth it; Gohan vs. Cell is a legendary film DBZ fight debuting its most iconic form, and naruto The acclaimed Sakura x Sasori fight, as I already warned my friend, drags on a bit with eight episodes, as does Hiruzen x Orochimaru. That said, being long isn’t what makes them better; its moments, plot consequences, and conclusions generally carry greater weight, and long monologues or conversations without jutsu should not prolong the running time. In the words of Saitama, “Keep it to twenty words or less!”

So far, we have not had a large sample of Dragon Ball DAIMA fights, and Tamagami fights or other battles in the series could revert to the problems in much of the franchise. Still, I find a lot to enjoy in Toriyama’s latest original story, while Super builds until its inevitable continuation. But at least for now, Dragon Ball DAIMA and his approach to his struggles has not yet overstayed its welcome.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth series overall in the action-adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic cast members as aged versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to manage DAIMA.
