In Dragon Ball DaimaAkira Toriyama’s creative direction is more apparent than ever thanks to the return of one of his classic tricks: an iconic, simplistic talent for planet naming. This has been especially prominent in the days of Dragon Ball Zwith Piccolo, Vegeta and more characters fundamentally affected by Toriyama’s nomenclature. Now this even appears in its latest official anime. In Dragon Ball Daimathe latest confirmation comes with more references to Supreme Kai Shin’s ancestral home, Kaishin, and its vital resource, Katchinite.
These references appear as Shin identifies the Magic Necklace as made from Katchinite, a metal found only on the planet Kaishineffectively meaning he has the powers to break the collar worn by Panzy. It’s an interesting development that suddenly puts Shin in an important position as a kind of liberator in Dragon Ball Daima. Still, Toriyama’s simplistic naming traditions have come to the fore again, something to be appreciated. With decades of history behind this trend, Supreme Kai Shin’s home planet Kaishin, host of Katchinite metal in Dragon Ball Daima It’s right next to Planet Vegeta and more.
Supreme Kai Shin’s Glind Home Continues Toriyama’s Planet Naming Trend
Keeping things easy to remember
With the previous revelations about Shin’s Glind race being genderless and born on trees, Dragon Ball Daima Episode #7 makes a brief reference to the Kai’s former homeworld of Kaishin. This is very reminiscent of several planets in Dragon ball canon, including Planet Vegeta of the Saiyans and Frieza’s vast empire of planets, each called Frieza and coded by numbers. While Dragon Ball Super pushes this in sillier directions, like Planet Cereal, where the Cerealians and Sugarmen live, there are subtler references that international fans might not pick up on as quickly.
For example, Dragon Ball Z features Namek as the home of the Namekians (until recent retcons), which is derived from “Namekuji” in Japanese, meaning “Slug” as a reference to the Namekians’ slug-like appearances. The fact that Shin’s Glind ancestors marched in Vegeta and Frieza’s route in Dragon Ball Daima It’s a nice developmentbut it’s not surprising given the history. But Shin has one more surprise for fans watching Dragon Ball Daima episode #7, with an even stronger connection to Saiyan naming conventions.
Shin is not the original name of the Supreme Kai in Dragon Ball Daima
Goku has a similar spirit in this sense
In Dragon Ball DaimaShin’s birth name as Glind of the Demon Realm is revealed to be “Nahare” when Panzy asks for that name as her real name. When Goku discovers this, he is eager to refer to his friend by his birth name, but reverts to calling him Supreme Kai Shin moments later. Given Goku’s birth name, revealed to be Kakarot in the opening arc of Dragon Ball Zit’s only fair that he still prefers to call Shin by the name he’s known all this time. Dragon Ball Daima.
