Dragon Ball Franchising is no stranger to continuity issues, but one significant issue has been introduced Dragon Ball Super relative to the ages of Goten and Trunks. However, given what is known about Dragon Ball DAIMAthis new series may offer an explanation for their inconsistent aging—if it wants one.
Goten and Trunks are two boys around the same age, with Trunks being slightly older than Goten. Dragon Ball Super begins a few months after the end of the Buu Saga and stretches out over a fairly long period of time, taking up most of the 10-year gap between Dragon Ball Z and its distant ending. However, despite such a long period of time, Goten and Trunks do not age at all, at least not until Dragon Ball Super: Superherowhich is set near the end of that 10-year gap. The sudden change in appearance of Goten and Trunks is reflected in Super manga too, but no explanation is offered.
Trunks and Goten's lack of growth remains one of Super's most annoying contradictions
Trunks and Goten were supposed to be much older for later super sagas
Trunks was born in 766 and was 8 years old at the end of the Buu Saga, but by the time SuperIn the original arcs, such as the Universe 6 saga, he would already be 14 years old. The same is of course true for Goten, but both are still depicted as more or less the same as during the Buu Saga. On the other hand, Future Trunks is 14 years old at the time of Gohan's death in his timeline, and has grown and matured much more noticeably. There is no clear reason why Trunks is so much less developed in the main universe, and it is most likely just an oversight due to Goten and (current) Trunks not taking into account Super Very.
This is especially frustrating for fans who wanted to see the main version of Trunks evolve into a character more similar to his future counterpart. The trance was artificially kept in a childlike appearance. Super specifically to avoid having to deal with this issue and keep Future Trunks and Present Trunks as visually distinct characters.. Dragon Ball Super: Superhero and the respective manga arcs manage to skip over any growth period that Trunks and Goten go through and immediately show them looking like teenagers, despite the fact that it takes place only a few years later than the Universe Survival Saga.
Throughout the series, largely through Goku's own growth, it is implied that Saiyan children tend to have "growth spurts" in which they quickly mature in a short period of time, and while this explanation may work for Goten, it still leaves Trunks with enormous growth. the difference between his Super appearance and his appearance as Future Trunks. This was also inconsistently shown with half-Saiyan characters such as Gohan, who was roughly the same size as Goku at age 12 when he was introduced at only 4 or 5 years old. This explanation doesn't quite work, at least not for Trunks.
Daima's timeline placement and aging curse give him a good opportunity to fix Trunks and Goten
Daima may explain why Goten and Trunks age so slowly
Dragon Ball DAIMA currently seems to be installed earlier Dragon Ball Super and after the Buu Saga Dragon Ball Zbased on what was seen in the trailers. DAYMA It is also shown that all of the main characters suffer from a curse that reduces them in size and appearance to that of children, even for those (such as Piccolo) who did not actually have a child form. However, Goten and Trunks, who were already the size of a child, are shown to have turned back into babies.left dressed as babies and lying on the ground.
It is possible that this curse affected the growth of Trunks and Goten, offering a potential explanation for why the boys remain in child form for so long. While the curse will likely be lifted by Goku by the end of the series, there are many ways in which it could still affect Trunks and Goten without affecting other characters. Perhaps the curse works on them more effectively because they were already children, or perhaps they will remain infants and be forced to grow up again, effectively repeating the ages of 1 to 8, which would certainly explain why they are only becoming teenagers V Superhero.
Dragon Ball Daima may fix other Dragon Ball Super Continuity problems
Daima offers a chance to clean up the continuity
Of course, the question arises whether DAYMA It would even be interesting to resolve this small continuity issue. At this stage it is also possible that DAYMA the action may take place in an alternate universe from Superin which case it obviously won't be able to fix the continuity issues one way or the other. DAYMA may or may not be interested in cleaning Superit's a mess, but at least it has the ability to do it, and in this case, quite cleanly.
DAYMA himself already has one notable problem with the continuity with the Supreme Kai.who plays a big role in the series, but who at this time has yet to merge with his assistant Kibito; Kibito and the Supreme Kai were shown disarming during the Universe 6 saga. Dragon Ball Super. It's possible that the curse of aging is responsible for them turning back into two separate beings, but that's just speculation at this point. The series could certainly clear up this particular situation as it is a continuity error introduced in Super because of DAYMA.
Dragon Ball DAIMA of course, exists not only to solve problems with Superbut the opportunity it presents could be used to clear up at least one specific issue with Goten and Trunks. Trunks have long been a strange phenomenon in the world. Dragon Ball continuity, and fixing this would certainly go a long way in winning over some fans who may still be hesitant to accept DAYMA. Dragon Ball has become more cautious about continuity over the years, and hopefully this concern for continuity will still be present in DAYMA Also.
Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth episode of the adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic actors as outdated versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to helm DAIMA.
