From the first Dragon Ball Daima trailer dropped, everyone correctly pointed out the similarities with Dragon Ball GTbut Daima #episode 4 proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the new series is being rewritten GT beyond just Goku becoming a child, recreating the first planet that Goku, Trunks and Pan visit. Yet, Daimathe interpretation of is different enough that GTThe first few episodes of still stand up well in their own right, despite the understandable controversy surrounding the series.
The correlations between the nameless city seen in Daima to GTPlanet Imecka are unmistakable. Goku’s ship was stolenand he’s trapped in a place where indigenous people’s money is drained by a greedy ruler. To your credit, Daima introduced some nuances to the original story that, on the surface, make it seem more effective. Goku can’t fly Daima because of how heavy the air feels in the Third Demon World, while GT his son Goku was simply unable to fly. Furthermore, the reach of the greedy ruler in GT is limited to Planet Imecka only, while DaimaGomah’s main antagonist, the king of the Demon World, is to blame, and it’s obvious that Goku will be dealing with Gomah long after he leaves the exploited village in question.
Dragon Ball Daima is inspired by one of the best GT stories
Planet Imecka was an underrated part Dragon Ball GT
What helps Planet Imecka stand out from the Third Demon World thus far is the sheer ridiculousness of the Imeckians’ exploitation in GT. When Goku and his companions check into a hotel, literally everything imaginable in their room is charged, and the rate of these charges is equally ridiculous – per second. By themselves, these developments effectively capture the light tone of the original Dragon Ball serieswhile also providing enough creative flair to prevent them from being completely disregarded by those who prefer the seriousness of the DBZ.
In comparison, the way the indigenous demons in Daima Are Taxed is pretty classic, with evil soldiers roaming the villages to extract tribute for Gomah. However, the way in which the lives of the villagers are sucked out if they don’t pay it’s really horrible. Yet, GT also introduced more serious themes to the aforementioned hotel nonsense, which add some effective context that exceeds even the life-sucking machine of Daima. The Imeckians are so exploited by their ruler that they themselves have resorted to villainy when trying to trick Goku and his friends. Meanwhile, Goku comes across a poor old couple whose conditions are so miserable that we can’t help but feel utter hatred for the evildoers who put them in such conditions.
Unfortunately, Dragon Ball GT went downhill after Planet Imecka
Daima has the chance to take advantage of GT’s strengths
Despite these qualities, it would be false not to note that Planet Imecka was the high point of the Black-Star Dragon Ball Saga and that each consecutive planet from then on was a huge disappointment until Planet M-2, when Goku met Baby. Regardless, it’s certainly great for fans of GT realize this Dragon Ball Daima is linking back to Planet Imecka, and often ignored and even forgotten by most Dragon Ball fans.
