Warning: Contains spoilers for episode 2 of Dragon Ball DaimaDragon ball has always boasted some of the best villains in anime and manga history. From its earliest villains like the great Demon King Piccolo to the highly underrated Jiren, the franchise has always released iconic antagonists one after another. Now, Dragon Ball Daima introduced its main antagonist, the newest King of the Demon Realm, Gomah, who may not seem like much but it seems to be hiding a little more beneath the surface.
In fact, Gomah acting as the main antagonist is something of a return to the series’ roots. In appearance, he resembles the most common type of villain in Dragon Ballfrom previous arcs, like the troublesome Emperor Pilaf and his troublesome gang. Compared to the fearsome later Dragon ball villains, like Full-Power Frieza or Perfect Cell, Gomah doesn’t seem to compare, at least in stature. However, according to Supreme Kai in the latest episode of Daima, Gomah is actually much more dangerous than it seems.
The extent of his power remains to be seen, though if he is able to pose a threat to Goku and the others after his extensive battle with Majin Buu, Gomah would need to possess frightening abilities. It is also unknown how diminished the heroes’ powers have become now that they have been reduced to children, only increasing the threat of Dragon ballthe newest villain.
Gomah must possess frightening power to pose a challenge
The Z Fighters have supernatural strength after the Buu saga
By the time the Majin Buu Saga concluded, Goku, Vegeta and Gohan began to possess almost immeasurable levels of strength. Dragon Ball Super addressed the absurd power these fighters shared bringing a deity to Earth who possessed a type of ‘god ki’ totally different from what humans or Saiyans had at their disposal. Given what the Z Fighters were capable of at that point in the story, godhood seemed like just a natural evolution.
Now this Daima is also taking place after Buu’s defeat, Gomah is facing heroes equally powerful to those Beerus dealt with so easily before Goku achieved his Super Saiyan God form. The difference is that Gomah is not a god like Beerus, or a constantly regenerating fighting machine like Buu, or even a combination of all the warriors’ strengths like Cell. The arrogant and eccentric King of the Demon Realm has only been seen as conniving and paranoid until now. Dragon Ball Daima.
But Gomah won’t be the first Dragon ball villain whose the strength is much scarier than its appearance. First Form Frieza wasn’t very intimidating during his time on Namek, but he remained a force to be reckoned with in history. Having originated in the mysterious Demon Realm, it’s possible that Gomah possesses abilities never before seen in the series, which could give him an advantage over the now-weakened Goku. It is also incredibly likely that DaimaFuture fights will showcase more than just brute strength.
Supreme Kai warns that Gomah is cunning
Gomah will likely rely on more than brute force
As Dragon ballThe fighters increase in power, introducing new villains that are constantly stronger than the previous ones becomes somewhat complicated. To compete with characters like Goku and Vegeta, many are given tricks or abilities that make them difficult to beat. Buu himself was the only one who was not actually stronger than Goku or Gohan, but had advanced regenerative abilities and a chaotic, unpredictable nature.
Given what Daima shown of Gomah so far, it is likely that he also has special abilities, as Supreme Kai mentioned that he is not only incredibly powerful but also very cunning. Although not used, Gomah carries a staff which may indicate that he is capable of using magic in some way, like the wizard Babidi from the previous arc. Magical abilities are not deeply explored in Dragon ball until Superof Arco Moro, which takes place several years after the timeline of events.
If Gomah shares any of Moro’s abilities, he will be far more threatening than anyone could have predicted. There is also the possibility that he will have access to some transformation, such as Dragon ball has never been shy about including sudden power-ups. Regardless of speculation, Dragon Ball Daima promised an interesting villain in Gomah, and his new abilities will be showcased soon after a very strong start to the franchise’s newest anime.
