Warning: Contains spoilers for episode 11 of Dragon Ball Daima. One of the best parts about Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Dragon Ball Daima This is how both jobs gave Piccolo the focus and development he needed. Not only did Superhero essentially make Piccolo the protagonist, but Daima did a lot to flesh out Namekian lore, which in turn made Piccolo feel more developed than ever.
Piccolo has received a lot of attention in recent years, but at least in Dragon Ball Daimanot everything was great. Daima was filled with retcons for Dragon ball tradition in almost every episode and, surprisingly, Dragon Ball Daima episode 11 may have done a very blatant retcon to one of the oldest elements of Piccolo's character. In a moment of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero makes this less egregious than one might think, but regardless, it's still a strange development to see in the series.
Dragon Ball Daima's Piccolo Retcon Really Happened Years Ago in Superhero
In Dragon Ball Daima episode #11, Neva joined the heroes in their search for the Dragon Balls, mainly because they need someone who speaks Namekian to activate them. Piccolo said he couldn't do it because he had been on Earth so long that he had forgotten the language, Piccolo and Kami spoke Namekian fluently when they fought in the World Martial Arts Tournament, which was after they both lived. Earth for centuries, so Dragon Ball Daima stating that Piccolo does not speak Namekian is a clear contradiction to some of the oldest Piccolo traditions.
Piccolo not knowing Namekian is undeniably weird, but surprisingly, it might not be a retcon. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero it was the first time Piccolo used his gigantification power since fighting Goku, and when Krillin told Piccolo about it, Piccolo said he forgot he could do that. The implication is that Piccolo is somehow so forgetful that he forgets some of his powers, so Piccolo not being able to speak Namekian is less of a retcon and more of a joke about him forgetting his established abilities for the first time in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Piccolo's strange forgetfulness fits Dragon Ball's humor perfectly
Why Dragon Ball's New Piccolo Joke Is So Good
Piccolo being forgotten to the point of forgetting his powers is strange to consider, but it's much better than one might imagine. It's not just a smart way to protect the lamp for however long Dragon ball will not address certain powers or plot points, but the more classic style of Dragon ball Humor is the kind that revolves around characters acting as stupidly as necessary for the good of the plot, so The fact that Piccolo is so forgetful that he can't remember his powers works because of how faithful he is Dragon ballcomedy style.
All of this, of course, fits well into the central concept of Daima. The biggest point of sale Daima It was his return to the classic Dragon ball aesthetics both visually and narratively, and because of this, Piccolo's joke about being forgotten fits perfectly Dragon Ball Daimathe return to the classic Dragon ball humor. It's unclear if this was intentional, but it continues to show how great the writing is for both of them. Dragon Ball Daima and Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroand we hope this continues in any future Dragon ball projects too.
