Dragon Ball DAIMA fans may have missed the teased return of another classic element of the franchise

With the number of references Dragon Ball Daima has been part of the franchise’s canon throughout its forty-year history, some, like Goku’s Nyoibo or the Flying Nimbus, have become increasingly practical for Goku. With the protagonist and his friends reduced to children, it’s important to take advantage of every mobility boost available, especially with the difficult air and terrain of the Demon Realm. In Dragon Ball Daima, there were even some teases about some equipment like Goku’s Nimbus, both in the opening credits and in a brief mention in an early episode.

The Flying Nimbus debuted in chapter three of the original Dragon Ball manga, presented as a relic previously passed to Master Roshi by Korin before being given to Goku. A fun ode Journey to the Westthe cloud only allows those with pure hearts to stand freely on it to fly through the heavens. Yet, more importantly, has been used as a flying vehicle without wasting energy. Given Flying Nimbus’s visual provocations in Dragon Ball Daima, it is not unreasonable to expect to see it even as a practical response to the heavy air of the Demon Realm.

A practical answer to the Air Demon Realm

Dragon Ball DAIMA Nimbus

With the Flying Nimbus being shown in Dragon Ball Daima opening title sequence and mentioned in episode 2 by Korin, this relic has clear potential to return to relevance for Goku. With crossing the Demon Realm being extremely difficult thanks to the heavy air, resulting in a much more significant energy expenditure to travel even short distances, the Nimbus cloud practically eliminates these disadvantages. Since the air of the Demon Realm could easily be a complicated way to make the Nimbus necessaryis a clever way to bring back one of the first Dragon Ball references.

The Nimbus has appeared in the timeline in every other Dragon Ball stories, including Dragon Ball Z, GT, and Super. It has been useful for masking energy signatures when used for flight. Given the return of Goku’s Nyoibo or “Power Pole” as a response to the dwindling desire affecting his melee range, the Nimbus could be an equally beneficial tool. This, along with several setbacks in Dragon Ball Daima, indicates the series’ intention to reincorporate even Goku’s most obscure or rarely used abilities and equipment.

It’s not just Nimbus’s time to shine

As shown in Dragon Ball Daima episode five, Goku briefly glimpses the False Super Saiyan form, showing a temporary transformation to demonstrate his power to King Kadan. Other concepts like Dragon Ball Super Cube could present alternative answers to the interdimensional divide between the Demon Realm and other worlds.

Even fusion concepts are potentially given origin stories or alternative concepts in Dragon Ball Daima as part of a clear focus on showcasing everything that has made the franchise great over the decades.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is the fifth series overall in the action-adventure anime franchise. It features most of the classic cast members as aged versions of themselves, including Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma. The series was announced at NYCC 2023, with creator Akira Toriyama returning to manage DAIMA.
