Warning: Contains spoilers for episode 11 of Dragon Ball DaimaDragon Ball Daima is interested in expanding knowledge of the franchise. In the relatively short period of time it was on the air, the series pushed new characters from the Demon Realm into the background of old battles, tried to explain why Vegito wasn't a permanent fusion, and rewrote the story of Majin Buu's creation. The most interesting changes, however, were those made for the origins of certain characterssuch as Shin and Piccolo belonging to races native to the Second Demon World.
Shin's identity as Supreme Kai has always been a mystery, but even DaimaNamekians were thought to originate on Planet Namek. It turns out that they are a race native to the Demon Realm who escaped long ago, leaving behind the legendary Namek, Neva. The creator of the Demon Realm's Dragon Balls, Neva appears somewhat senile in her first appearance, although after meeting with the main group of heroes, she reveals she knows more than she lets on. AND Daima take the opportunity to expand Piccolo's lore when the two Namekians meet.
Piccolo reveals he is more than the son of the demon king
Dragon Ball Daima clarifies Piccolo's origins
Piccolo's origins have always been somewhat ambiguous. Born from an egg dropped by Demon King Piccolo, fans have long debated whether Piccolo Jr. is the Demon King's son or his reincarnation. The 'Jr.' in its name suggests the former, although Dragon Ball Daima finally gave his opinion on the matter. When speaking to Neva in episode 11, titled “Legend,” the wise elder brings up the legendary Namekian warrior, Katatz, also known as the father of the nameless Namekian, who split into two beings long ago.
These two Namekians were Demon King Piccolo and Kami, who became one again during the Cell Saga when Piccolo absorbed Earth's guardian. In Daimaat the mention of Katatz, Piccolo calls the Namekian legend his father. Given that he also stated that he was the unnamed Namekian in the Cell Saga, it seems that the series has finally decided that Piccolo is actually the reincarnation of the once-evil Demon King Piccolo, rather than his son.
Piccolo was never exactly like the Demon King
Piccolo was never as bad as the once-terrifying demon king
Inheriting Demon King Piccolo's desire to dominate the world and hatred towards Goku, Piccolo arrived Dragon ball playing the role of the villain. From the beginning, however, he never shared the pure, evil nature of his former self. Going so far as to save a random child in the original Dragon ball anime, it seems that the Namekian was always destined to one day join the cast of heroes. And although he was brutal with Goku in their fight during the World Tournament, his behavior changed a lot when Raditz arrived.
So when he took on the task of training Gohan, the wheels began to turn that would forever change Piccolo's role in history. Dragon Ball Daima may have finally clarified that the Namekian is the reincarnation of the Demon King, although he was a fundamentally different character long before he became a hero. Piccolo is one of Dragon ballthe most interesting charactersand Daima It's better to incorporate it in a meaningful way. Future episodes will certainly continue expanding the series' lore, and fans won't want to miss out on the new developments that come next.
