Dragon Age: The Veil Guard connects the franchise’s classic stories with a more animated style and an intriguing new story with many choices to be made. This installation of the franchise follows the player character, Rook, on their journey through Thedas as they deal with some ancient gods, Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, who have escaped from their dark prison. The player’s job is to protect the world once again and become the kingdom’s greatest defender, The Veilguard.
While there are many choices to be made, one of the seemingly most important choices to be made is to confront Solas, the Elven wizard who was previously a companion in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Depending on the path players choose to take with Varric, another returning character from previous games, they witness the destruction of relationships and beliefs about the world within seconds. One of the main story missions, “The End of the Beginning,” explores the difficult choices that must be made when considering each character’s past and how it affects their future.
What happens if you support Varric’s plan
A bad result for Varric with an advantage
When given the first choice between supporting or going against Varric’s plan, the characters are at the Ritual Site and face waves of demons. Varric suggests that Solas needs another option, as Solas must not be aware of the damage he is causing. trying to close the Veil. If the players side with Varric, he tries to talk to Solas, but unfortunately is unable to win him over. initially. Afterwards, Rook and Neve or Harding try and fail to stop the ritual, and Varric is stabbed.
Even though Neve and Harding have different opinions on Varric’s actions, Varric ultimately feels like he let Rook down by failing to stop Solas. Depending on which companion you choose to assist at the pillar, the alternate companion leading the rest of the group to safety, including Varric. While the characters are in The Fade following their interaction with Solas, each character’s feelings are further fleshed out as they assess their injuries and the fact that they were unable to stop the ritual.
What happens if you disagree with Varric’s plan
Varric is disappointed and Harding disapproves anyway
When considering the option of going against Varric’s plan, players should be aware that Harding disapproves of both optionsbut this doesn’t have a significant influence on the rest of the story. If you disagree with Varric’s plan, in the aftermath it is said that he feels he underestimated the impact it would have on Solas.inferring that perhaps friendship was a blind thing to trust. Solas faces a distinct downfall anyway, as the ritual still fails.
The biggest difference between each option is when players choose to allow Harding to accompany them to take down the tower.as this is one of the only opportunities to get her to approve any action before the party is sent to the Fade. However, after this confrontation with Solas, Varric’s injuries are too serious for him to remain in your group in the same way. The consequences progress in the same way after the player chooses to go against Varric, as players will then have to figure out how to stop Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain on their way to Minrathous.
It’s best to agree to Varric’s plan
You will have the best result in history
Overall, in terms of story and allowing the power of friendship to prevail, players must choose to follow Varric’s plan. Although Varric is seriously injured and another member of Rook’s party is injured, the consequences for Varric’s overall outlook on friendship, even if it appears he has let the group down, benefit the game’s narrative more.
There are no real consequences for this action, allowing players a free choice. However, there is an emphasis on the roles of friendship and loyalty within Dragon Age: The Veil Guard that align more with this choice than not supporting your ideas.
However, encouraging Varric to talk to his friend – especially someone so important to many players’ pasts – is an important thing to experience.
Supporting Varric may not have an incredible impact on the later game, as there is little influence on this decision compared to some of the other decisions that can be made within Dragon Age: The Veil Guard. However, encouraging Varric to talk to his friend – especially someone so important to many players’ pasts – is an important thing to experience. Solas is correct when he says that Varric has come a long way and fought valiantly, but “This story doesn’t end with my fall.”
