Depending on the choices you make, you can also obtain powerful equipment.
Those looking to increase their bond level with Emmrich can help give the character new abilities to use as one of Rook’s companions. In addition to giving gifts to companions Dragon Age: The Veil GuardFollowing characters on their unique quests will deepen your relationship with them. By choosing the right dialogue options, you can even romance specific NPCs throughout the game.
How to Find the Hezenkoss Lantern
Free spirits being held captive
After finishing the “Blood of Arlathan” mission, you can unlock “Sacrifice of Souls” with Emmrich by traveling to Blackthorne Manor. Your goal here is free the souls trapped and held captive in the Lantern of Hezenkossa powerful artifact wielded by the necromancer. However, first you need find a way to Blackthorne Manoras its main entrance is locked while Hezenkoss receives several guests.
During the first scene where Rook and Emmrich arrive at Blackthorne Manor, don’t initially worry about the dialogue options. Unlike others later in this quest, they do not affect your overall relationship with Emmrich.
Go west from the mansion’s front door until you see the stairs on your right in the small cemetery next to the building. Climbing this staircase will help you enter the Mansion through its balcony, where you can follow a path immediately to your left, deeper into the area. Follow your quest marker through the upper balconies until you reach a place where you can observe the party, as well as everyone present.
How to find the spectral tome
While people wait for Hezenkoss “big announcement”, return to the Mansion Library. This area is to the east, where you closed the Hezenkoss portal to The Fade earlier. Once you reach the Library, you’ll have to fight a series of undead enemies that occupy the space around the bookshelves.
Depending on your character build Dragon Age: The Veil GuardThis fight will be very easy or quite difficult. After beating everyone in the Library, find the Spectral Tome Hezenkoss was using one of the many books in the room. When you find it, follow your quest marker and deliver the Spectral Tome to the skeletal servant Manfredwho waits at the door outside the party venue.
Where to find the flashlight
Return to the balcony and watch as Manfred takes the tome to the man in the group asking about the shrine of Hezenkoss, which may be connected to the Lantern. Follow your quest marker back to Manfred after this, to discover that the skeleton managed to find a key to the shrine itself. Descend below the sanctuary in the tunnels beneath him, then follow the red tapestries to where the Lantern is being kept.
Eventually, you’ll come to a secret door that Manfred can open by crawling through a crack in the wall and unlocking it from the other side of the room. When you enter, a short scene takes place between Rook and Emmrich, where you can choose the “Admire later?” Dialogue option to increase your bond with the partner.
Take the elevator down further in the sanctuary, where you can see a huge bone golem being fed by the Lantern. Fight hordes of enemies to get to the Lantern itself, which is in a separate chamber that Hezenkoss stole from the Great Necropolis.
Take down the various undead in this area, especially the Pride Demon Deathchill, who serves as the Lantern’s main guard. Once everything is clear, take some time to explore a bit and find other treasures before interacting with the Lantern to move on to the next phase of this quest.
How to beat Hezenkoss
Defeat waves of undead minions
When you interact with the Lantern, a scene occurs where Hezenkoss appears before Rook and Emmrich. This leads to a boss fight against Hezenkoss and the giant Bone Golem that they resurrect in the ballroom with all the guests present. When speaking with Hezenkoss, choose the “Do you call your plans art?” dialog option to further enhance his bond with Emmrich.
To beat Hezenkoss, chase them around the arena to deal damage to the boss whenever you can. Emmrich’s Time Stop ability can give him a few seconds of uninterrupted attack to deal as much damage as possible to the Hezenkoss before they flee. Throughout the fight, Hezenkoss summons undead minions you’ll want to defeat it quickly to prevent your party from becoming overwhelmed.
The Bone Golem on Hezenkoss’ side creates massive AoE attacks that you must dodge during the fight. These attacks are marked by large red circles that appear on the battlefield, so avoid these areas to prevent your party from taking damage. Keep eliminating minions and pressuring Hezenkoss whenever you can, as the fight gets more and more intense.
Hezenkoss is resistant to cold damage but vulnerable to necrotic damageironically. Use this weakness to take more health from the necromancer whenever he appears in the boss arena.
If you have a strong party combo in Dragon Age: The Veil GuardThis fight shouldn’t take long to overcome. Upon winning, Manfred will come to everyone’s rescue at the end, leading to the completion of the mission. While Rook and Emmrich are talking about Manfred’s sacrifice, you will have to make an important choice about Emmrich’s future from these two options:
Choice |
Reward |
Item Effect |
---|---|---|
Transform Emmrich into a Lich |
Death Caress |
Veil Guard Skill – All of Emmrich’s abilities apply Necrosis when dealing damage. The party’s Affliction damage is increased by 25%. |
Bring back Manfred |
Hug of life |
Heroic Armor – Your Low Health limit has now increased by 10%. The party deals 50% more damage when you are low on health. |
Depending on your choice, you will strengthen your bond with Emmrich and your party’s power at the same time. Managing to complete the “Sacrifice of Souls” mission in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard may wrap up Emmrich’s storyline, but it doesn’t conclude how useful the character will continue to be in his group.
