Like most RPGs of recent years, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard has more to offer players than just the main story; Among many hidden bosses is Betrayal of Felassen, a high-level boss that offers unique rewards. Betrayal is part of the “Heart of Corruption“questline that is found at the beginning of Guard of the Veil but it will take most of the game to complete. The specific submission that Betrayal is a part of is titled “Gate of Deep Sorrows,” and you will find him in the Converging City at the Crossroads.
There are actually two bosses in the “Gate of Deep Sorrows“questline and Felassen’s Betrayal is the second. Don’t worry, though; the first boss you will encounter before reaching Betrayal is only level 25which means you must be prepared to face him the moment you recruit Taash. Before facing Betrayal, you will need to pick up “Heart of Corruption“At the Crossroads.
How to Find Chief Felassan’s Betrayal
Find the Gate of Deep Sorrows and defeat Desmal, bound by blood to Elgar’nan
First, head to Treviso, using the Crow hideout fast travel point. From there, zipline across the rooftops and look for the opening in the building you land on. It should be to the right of the zipline landing spot, and you should be able to see the Venatori enemies through the opening to your right.
This is where you will face Desmal, but you must eliminate the Venatori first, as they will only make the fight more difficult. After eliminating the Venatori, place the large cyst-shaped Blight in the back of the arena to spawn Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar’nan. Desmal is a Blighted orc and a formidable foe if you’re not ready for him. If you’re a warrior, check out this version of Reaper for DA: Veilguardperfect for extra damage and sustainability.
As mentioned above, Desmal is level 25 and weak to Fire damage, so make sure you have Taash and/or Devrin with you before you start. Watch out for Desmal’s huge attacks; he wants to get as close to you as possible to deal damage, so stay out of his range and be ready to dodge or become tanky enough that melee combat is an option. Additionally, he will summon smaller Blights that will create Darkspawn accretions if you don’t destroy them in time.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the detonations that you and your allies’ abilities can create. They deal extra damage and can even capture add-ons in the AoE burst.
Defeat Desmal to obtain a Champion Essence, as well as some other rewards. After collecting Champion Essence, take it to the location marked on your map in the Converging City. Before opening the Blight gate, you’ll need to use a wire to open a nearby drawbridge and kill General Rathera, which should be easy. After that, open the plague gate to face Felassan’s Betrayal.
How to defeat Felassan’s betrayal
This spear and shield user wants to be in your face
After entering the arena behind the Blight gate, you will come across The Betrayal of Felassan, which you may recognize if you have completed any of the Solas Memories required to Guard of the Veil’secret ending. This boss is very slow and, at just level 32, you are likely to defeat him without much trouble. Felassan’s Betrayal is weak to Necrotic and resistant to Cold, making Emmrich and Lucanis excellent companions here.
Similar to Desmal, Betrayal is a melee-focused boss. It has some nasty attacks, which you can see in Gaming Horizonwe’re fighting this on YouTube. Here are some specific ones to keep an eye on:
Attack |
Tip |
---|---|
Shield Strike |
Betrayal’s shield bash is fairly harmless, but annoying as it will knock you down if you don’t avoid it. |
Impact attack |
A large circle will glow red around Betrayal as she finishes and then slams her spear into the ground, dealing damage and knocking you down. |
Ice Pulses |
At low HP, Betrayal will crouch, raising its shield and sending out large projectiles of Frost damage. They move slowly but hit hard, so avoid getting stuck in a corner. |
Spear strike |
Betrayal will attack you with his spear in a wide arc. This is another slow attack that is relatively easy to avoid. |
The Betrayal will summon several undead during the fight, which will be annoying if you don’t defeat them. Multitask to take down the undead while still dealing damage to the boss, or Have your companions focus the boss while you smash the annoying additions. At one point, Betrayal will attempt to draw power from the tear in the Fade, healing itself. Break his barrier before he can do so to prevent healing.
As some of the lesser undead enemies in Guard of the Veil, Betrayal has a shield, which helps it avoid frontal damage. Because your shield is so big, the best way around this is to try to maintain it as much as possible. This can be annoying, but it will also help you avoid the brunt of Betrayal’s attacks.
Although Betrayal of Felassan is resistant to cold damage, the crowd control that comes with the Snow Control spell can be really useful. If you’re overwhelmed by Betrayal’s melee attacks, consider some extra CC to help clear up space.
You will receive some rewards after defeating Felassan’s Betrayal. You will receive five Etheric Remnants, 100 Wail Warding Force, 1 Revenant Essenceand access to an exclusive chest. This chest drops “The Burden”, a unique amulet that gives you +20% extra damage at low health and your “low health” status triggers early. However, this amulet has a disadvantage: your health cannot exceed 70%. If you are looking for a glass cannon build, this amulet is for you.
If you are following all the steps in the “Heart of Corruption“mission, there are still more bosses for you to fight, all with similarities”XYZ Gate“titles. Otherwise, you have completed the “Gate of Deep Sorrows“quest line and can move on to any side, companion, or main story mission that takes your fancy. There’s plenty to do in Dragon Age: The Veil GuardSo go ahead and explore everything the game has to offer.
