The world of Dragon Age: The Veil Guard is full of different items that you can acquire: valuables to sell for gold and increase faction standing, weapons and armor to upgrade, cosmetics to try out, decorations to customize the Lighthouse, and much more. Although gold is the main currency in Thedas, you will find merchants in the game, like those in Crossroads, who do not accept gold as a form of payment.
Etheric Remnants are another currency in the game, and you will need to purchase items from some merchants and fully upgrade your equipment from the Lighthouse Keeper. Luckily for Rook and the gang, Etheric Remnants aren’t too hard to find, as long as you know where to look.
How etheric remnants work in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The Crossroads’ Preferred Currency
After progressing through the game, you will unlock The Crossroads, a magical dimension where all the magical travel mirrors of the Elves, the Eluvians, meet. Many spirits will begin to gather in The Crossroads and open shops selling rare materials, souvenirs, appearance items, and valuables for Rook to purchase. However, these spirits will mostly accepts only Etheric Remnants as payment, so you’ll definitely want to have some on hand.
Periodically, check back with the spirit merchants in The Crossroads. They will update their products from time to time and new stores will open as you complete the main story mission. They will have a lot of rare materials that you will need to upgrade your equipment to the higher levels.
Rook will also need Etheric Remnants when upgrading the party’s equipment with the Caretaker of the Lighthouse Workshop. Some updates (not all) will require these remnants as a component to complete. Lastly, there are special items you can purchase using Etheric Remnants from Xenon the Antiquarian, the mysterious vendor at the Black Emporium.
Tips for Finding Etheric Remnants
Go straight to the source
Etheric Remnants are produced wherever the Veil, the barrier that separates the Fade from the physical world, has been breached, broken or diluted. According to game information, remnants can only be collected from creatures and locations connected to the Fade:
-
Areas where the Veil has been torn or broken.
-
Left behind by demons or creatures touched by the Fade.
-
Gathered at the crossroads.
As you explore the Crossroads and other areas connected to the Fade, keep your eyes peeled for small green crystals of Etheric Remnants growing in the ground. You’ll also learn some from defeating demons and other creatures connected to the Fade in combat. If you are without this important currency, return to the Crossroads and you will find more quickly.
Once you have accumulated enough Etheric Remnants, you will be able to purchase and upgrade your equipment as you wish. There’s also plenty more to do in Crossroads, so be sure to explore the area in full, as it contains many clues and glimpses into the history of Solas in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard and his fight against the Evanuris,
