By following Taash’s personal quest in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardplayers can get the side quest “Director Grey’s final rest” which tasks Rook and the team with investigating the life and history of the first Qunari Gray Warden. Doing so will increase your standing with the Gray Wardens while also giving you extra XP for your troubles. However, This quest can only be completed if you follow Taash’s personal quest almost all the way, so it’s not possible to finish it once you unlock it.
Taash and his mother are two of the many Qunari who fled Qun after the Antaam began invading neighboring regions and taking them over. They grew up in Rivain with the Lords of Fortune, which greatly influenced their lives and made them struggle with their identity as Qunari and as women. Taash’s personal quest finds Rook helping them navigate the complicated ideas of gender nonconformity while also hunting dragons in DA: The Guard of the Veilalthough that’s not what”Director Grey’s final rest” implies.
How to begin Principal Grey’s final rest
Pick up the letter near the Clifftops Lighthouse
This side quest is not given to you by one of the Guard of the VeilThere are many NPCs, but it is one that you encounter alone while exploring the Costa Rivain region. After completing “The dragon slayer,” which is the mission you undertake to recruit Taash after Minrathous and Treviso, you can freely explore Costa Rivain and continue the mission by finding the first letter. Head southwest of the Clifftops Beacon and enter the nearby destroyed buildings to begin.
In the ruined area, you’ll see some Gray Warden remains leaning against a wall beneath a colorful mural of a griffin eating someone. Upon inspection, you will read a little about Warden Grey, who was the first Qunari Warden in the history of Thedas. Taash is understandably impressed, as the Qunari have an interesting lineage in Thedas, and will ask you to look up more notes on this historical Qunari figure.
The second letter can be found in one of the small towers in the southwest part of the map. Go to the marked location and go down the stairs at the top of the ruin on the left. After climbing the ladder, you’ll need to blow up the Gaatlock barrel to open the way to the second letter.
How to enter Sharksmouth Caves
Meet Taash and complete some missions
After finishing”Dragon King’s Lair” with Taash, return to Costa Rivain to find the northeastern area of the region open to you. Head north from the Castle Bailey Beacon on the north side of the map to find an entirely new section. You must go to the lava cave and carefully – or destructively – walk through the Darkspawn in the area to find the third and final note.
From the cave floor lighthouse, head left up the stairs of the ruins and past the many Darkspawn, following the path upwards until you can drop down onto the wooden platforms extending to the left. Follow this wooden outcrop to the next cave, climb the ladder and cross the room to reach a large stone bridge with two statues. The letter you are looking for will be found here and you can continue fighting Sharksmouth’s Fury.
How to Defeat Sharksmouth Fury
It’s a big angry demon in a small room, so look alive
Fortunately, Sharksmouth’s Fury isn’t another dragon like many of the enemies in Taash’s quest turn out to be; instead, it is a Rage Demon. It’s weak to Ice, so bring your own Cold abilities as well as Snow for support. At this point, you’ve probably fought more than one of these bad boys, so there’s nothing surprising about this fight. Just in case, here are some of Fury’s moves to watch out for:
Attack |
Tip |
---|---|
Flame Charge |
The Fury will attack at full speed while also on fire. He will leave a trail of fire behind him, so be careful not to dodge while avoiding the main part of the attack. This attack is also super fast, so save any skill attacks for when the Rage stopsensuring your skills are spot on. |
Explosion |
Marked by a large red circle around him, the Fury will release a blast of fire in a circle. Stay away from this and you should avoid this attack easily. |
Jumping Slam |
This attack is also indicated by a circle on the ground, and Fury will jump into the air before slamming into the ground, dealing area damage. |
Flamethrower |
Just like dragons, Sharksmouth’s Fury has a breath attack that covers almost the entire arena. Avoid him by dodging backwards or using your block to land a hit. |
Fire Wave |
Avoid this massive wave of fire by dodging it and then dealing some free damage while the Fury is occupied. |
Dam |
The Fury will retreat a bit and send a wave of fireballs towards you, one at a time. Stay moving to avoid this, as the fireballs are too close together to actually do damage to each other. |
Also, note that Sharksmouth’s Fury will summon lesser demons during the fight, and they are super annoying. Use any explosive damage you may have to take them out quickly so you can focus entirely on the boss. This is by no means the most glamorous quest in Dragon Age: The Veil Guardbut you get some interesting insights into the history of the first Qunari Gray Warden, along with the strength of the Gray Warden and the Lords of Fortune for your efforts.
