How romance works in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Achieve the coveted cinematic romance with your chosen partner
In general, most novels in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard can be started after completing the mission to recruit each party member. Rook will need to visit his teammate in his room at the Lighthouse to welcome him to the team headquarters.
At some point in the conversation, usually towards the end, a romantic dialogue option will appear on the left side of the wheel. Players must choose this option to begin showing interest in a companion. It’s a very simplistic romance system on the surface, although there are several ways to build a relationship with your chosen partner.
Get approved and raise titles
Familiar to Inquisition players
Dragon Age: The Veil Guard reintroduces an Approval System similar to the Inquisition. While you won’t be able to see a companion approval indicator, choices Rook makes in dialogue or during gameplay will cause a pop-up on the left side of the screen saying which companions approve and which disapprove. In general, a high approval rating means that Rook aligns with the companion’s values, but this does not necessarily mean that not achieving a high approval rating will cause Rook to be rejected.
In addition to the Approval system, there is also a Escrow system. When Rook takes companions for the main story and side quests, they develop their bond with those companions. Stronger bonds translate into more Skill Points players can use it to specify better passive abilities for their companions. It’s a good idea to develop a strong bond with Rook’s romantic interest, both for combat skill upgrades and to improve your relationship with that character.
There are several decisions Dragon Age: The Veil Guard that are directly linked to companions and that, once taken, can make it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, for Rook to date the companion they sided against. Making these decisions leaves that companion Hardened, similar to making the decisions that harden or soften Leliana in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
When this happens, these companions will no longer use Combat Support abilities and will take longer to improve their link with the Tower. It is also possible to be blocked from certain missions linked to these characters. and its factions when these decisions are made. Players will want to be cautious when making decisions that affect their romantic interests, their faction, or their city.
Talk to companions and start companion missions
Spend time with your partner
Generally, after main story missions, and even between side missions, players must return to the Lighthouse and speak to each of their companions. They should also try to bring companions on side quests and exploration.
Over time, during conversations at the Lighthouse, the companion will share something with Rook that unlocks his first Companion Quest. This usually has to do with each companion’s special ability. For example, during his first companion mission, Harding practices moving rocks, and during his, Davrin invites Rook to go on a hike and picnic with him and Assan. During and after these missions, more romantic and flirty dialogue options become available in casual conversationsand players must make sure to select them.
This first quest usually opens up a deeper personal companion questline for players to follow, giving more information about each character and their arc. While it is important for players to complete Companion Quests in general, it is especially important to complete Companion Quests for Rook’s romantic interest. This will help Rook and his partner develop their relationship, which usually culminates in a special cinematic romance.
Give gifts
Show that you care
Similar to Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age: The Veil Guard includes a gift system. Tower can Find or buy gifts for your companions from various merchants. Item descriptions will tell players who the item can be gifted to, and a special quest will appear in the Journal to remind players to bring it to that companion at the Lighthouse. Gifts, in particular, help strengthen the companion’s bond with Rook and should not be overlooked, especially for Rook’s romantic partner.
Unchosen Companions
What happens without romance?
Many of the strategies for dating companions in Dragon Age: The Veil Guard They’re also important for building friendships with them, which makes all of the above valuable, even if you’re not seeking a romantic relationship.
Furthermore, while polyamory is not explicitly possibleIf Rook starts flirting with one companion but ends up choosing another, there don’t appear to be any significant consequences or awkward conversations in which the rejected partner requires the player to make an explicit choice. It is also possible for a non-romantic partner to begin a romantic relationship with another partner. All this helps to make Dragon Age: The Veil GuardThe romance system is a simple but effective way to add depth to your game.
