The latest episode plays with time in a way that would normally be out of the question.

Consequently, there is no problem for the versions of the Doctor to interact. Ultimately, the Doctor discovers the code through a bootstrapping paradox – a situation in which the future introduces information into the past, which leads to the future knowing the information.

Although the Time Hotel was a clever idea inspired by a 1970s children's TV show, Doctor Who's plot could create big problems in the future. The rule about the Doctor and his companions not crossing their timelines offers stakes for the show. Without “do-overs,” there is just no easy solution to deadly choices and mistakes. The Doctor cannot bring back companions from the dead or alter fixed events. However, the Time Hotel shows present a way for the Doctor to make changes without negatively impacting himself or those around him.
