Disney+ has introduced a top 10 list and it’s packed with Halloween titles ahead of the holiday. Disney’s streaming service originally launched in November 2019, seemingly unwittingly benefiting from the COVID-19 pandemic’s closure of movie theaters in early 2020, causing even more audiences to turn to home streaming for entertainment.
There are some Disney+ original movies and TV shows. Most of these titles are in some way related to their most popular IP, including several series and miniseries set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise. However, the streaming platform also features an extensive library of titles from various Disney-owned companiesincluding Pixar, National Geographic, Hulu and 20th Century Studios. In March 2022, the library was further expanded to include adult content due to an updated parental control function.
Hocus Pocus leads a long list of Halloween titles on Disney+
The platform’s first top 10 is focused on horror comedy
Disney+ have now revealed an official top 10 list for the platform. The list, which appears on the streamer’s homepage and includes movies and television shows, is updated daily and takes into account overall viewership as well as the speed of growth of new releases. The top 10 list also varies by region and level of parental control. The introduction of this list function reflects the daily top 10 lists that are already available on other platforms, including Netflix and Prime Video, pointing subscribers to popular titles that other viewers are consuming. See the current list below:

At the time of writing, the first top 10 list in the United States (without any parental restrictions) was dominated by horror comedies and Halloween-themed titleswith all but one of the films falling into these categories (a list that includes the Marvel show Agatha all the timewhich is not directly related to Halloween, but is timed to coincide with the holiday because of its wizard protagonists and eerie atmosphere). The only exception is 2018 Poisonwhich is probably on the charts because its second sequel, Venom: The Last Danceis currently in theaters.
What this means for Disney+
The platform’s older titles may have a chance at chart performance
It is not surprising that Hocus Pocus and Halloween City movies are on the charts the day before Halloween, considering how many viewers rewatch these movies seasonally. However, the first Disney+ The Top 10 list highlights how popular your content is a mix of new releases and older titles from your library. It remains to be seen whether this will still be the case after the holiday is over and the list reflects a cleaner slate of titles, but it seems highly likely that the ratio of old and new could remain the same even without Halloween influencing viewers’ choices. .
