Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to Unlock Hades

Disney Dreamlight Valley finally welcomed the players The Vale storybook as part of its latest expansion, and with it comes three new characters, including Hades, God of the Underworld. Unfortunately, Hades will not be immediately available upon entering this new land. Instead, you’ll have to complete some other tasks with Merida first.

After making the initial welcome with Merida, you will receive the Royal Net, a new Royal Tool, and can explore the expansion a little. Although Merida instructs you to consider visiting The Wild Woods first, where you will find Flynn Rider, you can choose to unlock the Elysian Fields, where Hades resides.

How to recruit Hades

A land mission of myths and legends

Once you have the option to explore, you will discover that several regions of the map are marked by Inkies. In the same way this works in Disney Dreamlight Valley and the other expansion, A rift in time, you will need to unlock each biome using the area’s currency. For the base game it was Dreamlight, but for The Vale storybookIt’s the magic of the story. Despite the different types of currency, it is still obtained in the same general way by completing daily tasks on your tracker.

Once you have earned at least 2,000 Story Magic, you will be able to remove the Inkies blocking access to the Elysian Fields. Once inside, a new quest with Merida will automatically generate A Land of Myth and Legends. This is the quest that will eventually lead you to Hades and begin the process of unlocking it. To start, you’ll need to explore the area, but what you’re looking for is the south of the area, where you’ll see an arch covering a path that leads to an object that looks like a gazebo with Inkies inside.

If you’ve already unlocked Flynn in The Wild Woods, this should feel familiar as the unlocking process starts the same way. Once you find the described area, your task will change to instructing you to speak to the Lorekeeper. After returning to the book and getting some backstory, follow Merida back to the Elysian Fields, where she will stop in front of something that resembles a small whisper of flame. She will instruct you to catch two of them in this area, which is relatively easy since they don’t move fast.

After getting the two whispers, go back to the area to the south and you will see two braziers on pillars on either side of a rotating lever. Place a whisk on each brazier and use your Royal Net to turn the lever in the correct direction. This will create a portal where the Inkies were and start Guts & Glory, the Hades unlock quest. Enter the portal to begin the quest with Hades.

Mission of courage and glory

Once inside the portal, you will finally come face to face with Hades himself. After talking to him, I realized that multiple tasks would need to be completed as part of a test. To start, push the cart to Hades’ right and follow it through the open gate. The rest of the test will consist of the same process as your objective, which is to push Hades’ cart to the end of the line by solving puzzles that obstruct it. From here, rotate the bridge using the rotating lever until it lines up with the intended path.

After crossing the bridge and reaching the next location, interact with the lever before you lower another bridge you need to cross. Destroy the rocks at the end to reach another rotating lever, which will open a gate blocking the cart. Then, go back to the bridge and push the cart through the gate you just opened. After that, follow Hades to the next location.

Here, you will need fish inside the swirl of sand in front of you to climb the bridgethat you can cross. Turn the lever at the end of the bridge to move the stairs and access the next area. There is also a platform containing a chest where you can stop to claim it first. Once the stairs are lined up, follow Hades to the next area and, once again, pull the lever there.

This will lower a bridge with another lever at the end. Pull this to lower a second bridge, which gives you access to a rotating lever. After rotating this with the Royal Net Tool, lift the second bridge back up so it doesn’t block the cart, then go back to the first bridge to push the cart to its final location. Follow Hades one last time and interact with the constitution source, which will release you and Hades back into The Storybook Valecompleting the first mythical trial.

Build Hades’ lair in Storybook Vale

Back in Storybook Vale, there are still some tasks you need to complete in order to befriend Hades. Firstly, you need to formally welcome him as a villager in Disney Dreamlight Valleywhich means putting your home in the valley. Open the build mode tab and select your house from the mission-related icon with your face, as you have done with others in the past, and place the building platform anywhere you want.

Once placed, approach the house in progress and interact with the Scrooge McDuck sign in front of it. Scrooge will appear informing you that this building will cost 10,000 gold coins. Once paid, Hades’ house will be built and the Welcome Hades scene will begin. However, to begin the first friendship quest and hang out with Hades, you will need to raise him to level 2, which can be done by gifting some of his favorite items in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
