There were also other narrative differences in the film. Rickey Hill’s coach, Red Murff, was antagonistic to the young baseball player, who was also added to the The hill to add tension to the story. However, in real life, Rickey said his coach was never as abrasive towards him and was much gentler in his interactions. However, although much was added to heighten the drama, an emotional moment was committed. Rickey said he climbed a 10-foot wall to talk to Red and get tested. The filmmakers may have thought this was too unrealistic.
