Dexter's Second Death and 11 Other Story Reveals

Notice! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episodes 2 and 3.1st season of Dexter: Original Sin continued the story of Dexter Morgan's (Patrick Gibson) early days in the Miami subway homicide, but also shed some light on the rest of the Morgan family's past. As a prequel series Dexter: Original Sin doesn't show the titular serial killer at his best. Dexter is still early in his career and quite shy of his massive kill count in Dexterand he clearly experienced some growing pains early on in his murderous journey. Original sin Season 1 Episodes 2 and 3 delved even deeper into Dexter's struggles with his second victim.

Dexter's murderous tendencies aside, Original sin also had some revelations for the rest of the show's cast. The new episodes delved deeper into Harry Morgan's (Christian Slater) past and also gave Debra (Molly Brown) a chance to connect with her brother in a unique way. The Miami Metro also went through a shakeup with the arrival of one of the Dexteroriginal characters, Maria LaGuerta. A lot happened in Original sin episodes 2 and 3, and there were more than enough reveals to warrant a full recap.

Judge Powell's son Jimmy was kidnapped by a mysterious masked figure

Jimmy's kidnappers could be from the cartel and cut off his finger

Dexter: Original Sin appears to have found its first overarching villain in the form of Jimmy Powell's kidnappers. Jimmy is the son of Judge Powell, a notable Miami judge who prosecuted drug traffickers and other cartel members. Original sin Episode 2 revealed that Jimmy was being held by someone in a mask, and they were feeding him frozen lunches. Jimmy's kidnappers eventually cut off one of his fingers and sent it to his father, and Dexter deduced that they used garden shears to do so..

It's still unclear who kidnapped Jimmy Powell, but the characters in Dexter: Original Sin had a predominant theory. Captain Spencer (Patrick Dempsey) thought Jimmy was kidnapped by the cartel to punish the judge for prosecuting them so harshly. Whether this is true remains to be seen, but whoever is responsible will likely be in trouble. Dexter commented that the sight of the severed finger enraged him, and all he wanted to do was kill whoever was responsible.. Additionally, most of the Miami metro is focused on finding Jimmy as quickly as possible.

Dexter was embarrassed at his first crime scene

Dexter’s co-workers were amused by his “void” theory

Dexter worked his first crime scene with Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar), but it wasn't the success he had hoped for. Captain Spencer let Dexter participate in an NHI murder, and Batista (James Martinez) explained that NHI stands for “no human beings involved,” meaning the victim was a drug dealer, a prostitute, or a homeless person. The other Miami Metro cops asked Dexter to bring them coffee and breakfast, and when he returned, he came up with a theory he got from examining the “void” in the blood.. Tanya had him repeat his theory to everyone, and everyone had a chance to laugh at Dexter.

Dexter was so bad at adapting that Harry had to personally ask Batista to take Dexter in to help him come out of his shell.

Later, when Batista, Bobby Watt (Reno Wilson) and Masuka (Alex Shimizu) had lunch, they played another prank on Dexter by putting a “void” in his Cuban sandwiches.. Dexter tried to fit in by joking about Bobby's health, but his comment seemed insensitive. Dexter was so bad at adapting that Harry had to personally ask Batista to take Dexter in to help him come out of his shell.

Debra decided to pawn her family's things and stole Nurse Mary's earrings

Sofia convinced Deb to sell her earrings, but ended up pawning her mother's pearl necklace

While Dexter tried to fit into the Miami metro, Debra had her own plans. Deb's friend Sofia (Raquel Justice) paid for an expensive pair of sunglasses by pawning her grandmother's mink coat and convinced Deb to do the same with her family's belongings. Unfortunately, Deb found the earrings that Dexter took from Nurse Mary as a trophy and tried to pawn them.. Deb ended up selling her mother's pearl necklace because Harry told her to.go ahead” after Doris' death. Deb's willingness to pawn her pearl necklace is a sign that she is increasingly frustrated with the amount of attention Harry is paying Dexter to her.

Levi Reed's trial began in Dexter: Original Sin

Levi Pleads Innocent, But His Girlfriend's Alibi Won't Work in Court

Levi Reed, the man who was arrested for the home invasion murders in Dexter: Original Sin episode 1, began his trial in the second episode. Miami Metro arrested Reed because the partial fingerprint they found at the crime scene matched his and because he was the only suspect capable of committing the crime and tall enough to leave the footprints found by Tanya. Reed pleaded not guilty and Spencer tried to assure Harry that he was a “open and closed box.” Reed's case became even worse when his girlfriend failed to provide an alibi because she couldn't remember what day of the week it was.

Dexter could end up killing Reed if he gets away with it on a technicality, which would be an interesting way to cause more tension between him and Harry.

While it appears that Levi Reed's case will be easily decided in favor of Miami Metro, there is still a chance there will be a surprise verdict. The simple fact that Original sin is following his court case seems to indicate that there is more to his story, and there are a few ways the show could benefit from a not guilty verdict. For starters, Dexter could end up killing Reed if he gets away with it on a technicality, which would be an interesting way to cause more tension between him and Harry. It could also be an opportunity to get Tanya in hot water if her forensic work was in any way compromised.

Harry recruited Laura Moser, Dexter's mother, in a flashback

Laura worked as Harry's criminal informant in the case against Hector Estrada

All over Dexter: Original SinHarry Morgan has been having flashbacks to the time before he adopted Dexter as his son. In the most recent episodes, Harry remembered when he met Laura Moser (Brittany Allen), Dexter's biological mother. Laura was arrested alongside a drug dealer named Joe, and Harry and his partner Bobby Watt managed to protect her as a criminal informant. With Laura's help, Harry hoped to break into Hector Estrada's cartel and take down the cocaine dealers from the inside. They also made significant progress, as Laura's upper-class clientele helped her rise through the ranks.

With Laura's help, Harry hoped to break into Hector Estrada's cartel and take down the cocaine dealers from the inside.

In addition to advancing the Hector Estrada investigation, however, Harry's work with Laura also revealed some new information about him. A flashback revealed that after Junior Morgan's death in Original sin episode 1, Harry and Doris Morgan were having some marital problems. At the same time as they were struggling to conceive another child, Harry met Laura's sons Dexter and Brian Moser. A romantic relationship has also begun to emerge between Harry and Laura, which should make their work even more interesting.

Dexter began going through files and bringing donuts to the Miami subway

Camilla helped Dexter find cold cases and discover how to gain popularity through donuts

Dexter's first attempt to ingratiate himself with Miami Metro officials doesn't go so well. He brought a plate of vegetables for his co-workers to eat, a gesture none of them appreciated. It wasn't until Tanya had Dexter meet Camilla Figg in the records room that he realized the error of his ways. Camilla told Dexter that eating healthy is not the way to win the cops' hearts and inspired him to bring back his beloved donuts from the original series.

Dexter's trip to the recording room didn't just give him the idea to bring donuts. Tanya wanted Dexter to retrieve drug-related files, and he ended up finding one linked to Rene Carballo. When Angel Batista took Dexter out drinking that night, he heard the story of how René and his mother died and was inspired to hunt down the killer.. Dexter will likely return to the records room for more potential victims several times, as Original sin continues.

Harry still smokes and drinks despite his heart problems

Harry is not listening to Deb's advice and warnings about his health

Despite having a heart attack at the premiere of Original sinHarry Morgan has already returned to his bad habits. Deb tried to keep Harry healthy by cutting down on red meat and forcing him to stop smoking and drinking. Dexter even tried to help too, buying the nicotine replacement Nicorette for his father. For a while, it seemed like Harry was making progress and started eating lollipops instead of smoking. However, Harry couldn't keep his habits completely under control and began smoking and drinking again in secret after his children went to bed..

Harry's return to his old ways doesn't bode well for him. After a heart attack, most people have to stop drinking and smoking to help their heart heal and prevent another cardiac arrest, and Harry's doctors told him to do the same. If he continues his bad habits, Harry could have another heart attack in the future. Original sin. At the very least, they will cause even more tension between him and Deb. Plus, the stress of Dexter's life as a serial killer isn't good for Harry's heart, so he's got a lot of trouble ahead of him.

Maria LaGuerta made a big introduction in Miami Metro Homicide

Maria joined Miami Metro Homicide, attacking them in the press

Original sin has already introduced several younger versions of the original cast of Dexterand finally brought in the last missing piece: Maria LaGuerta (Christina Millan). Mary's introduction to Original sin It was anything but subtle, however, when she was transferred to Metro Miami Homicide for badmouthing the department in the press.. It's the same policy Maria was known for in the original series, and she criticized the department for not investigating NHI homicides. Captain Spencer already hates her for talking to the newspapers and has ordered Harry to give him any reason he can find to fire her.

The only problem with Spencer's plan is that Maria has been a great detective so far. She digitized many of the Miami Metro case files and even managed to track down witnesses that Harry and Bobby were never able to convince to give statements. Harry even began to admire Maria and offered her help in investigating one of the cold cases. Even though she's a good cop, Maria's ambition and tendency to go over people's heads as she rises through the ranks could cause some major problems in her future. Original sinespecially for Captain Spencer.

Debra convinced Dexter to get cocaine for her party

Dexter made fake cocaine with caffeine powder to get his earrings back

Debra didn't end up pawning Nurse Mary's earrings, but gave them to Sofia. Dexter inevitably saw Sofia wearing her trophies and knew immediately that Deb had stolen them. Dexter begged Deb to get them back, but Deb forced him to agree to buy cocaine for a party she was hosting.. Deb was trying to be named captain of the volleyball team in the playoffs and needed to beat her teammate, Tiff, who was having a party. The only way to convince her teammates to come to her house was by promising to get cocaine, and Deb used Dexter's desperation to her advantage.

Dexter ended up having the last laugh with Deb, as he couldn't get her any real cocaine. He ended up making fake cocaine by combining powdered caffeine and benzocaine, which was enough to convince Deb's young and inexperienced friends. Deb also indirectly helped Dexter get his earrings back by taking him shopping to buy replacement earrings for Sofia, and she actually admitted that she enjoyed hanging out with her brother.. Once the party started, everything ended up going well, except for one unintended consequence.

3

Sofia took Dexter's fascination with earrings as a sign that he likes her

Sofia awkwardly kissed Dexter on her way to kill Tony Ferrer

The entire time Sofia wore Nurse Mary's earrings, Dexter was in love with her. To be clear, he was much more interested in the earrings than Sofia herself, but everyone — even Deb and Harry — thought Dexter had a huge crush on Deb's friend.. He kept staring at her intensely throughout dinner, and Deb's plan to buy replacement earrings only made it seem even more obvious that he wanted to date Sofia. The lack of romantic communication came to a head when Dexter tried to leave Deb's party and Sofia followed him out and kissed him, but that appears to be far from the end of the situation.

All over Original sinDexter has been a very awkward and socially awkward person, and he handled Sofia's kiss about as well as could be expected. Instead of reciprocating, he left abruptly with the lame excuse of having to run some errands. Dexter won't be able to avoid Sofia for long, though, and the two will have an awkward conversation sooner or later.. It's unclear how Dexter will get out of his unintentional relationship, but it should be interesting to watch.

2

Dexter's second kill was a loan shark named “Handsome” Tony Ferrer

Angel Batista told Dexter that Ferrer killed René's mother and caused his suicide

Dexter: Original Sin is quickly giving Dexter more victims to kill, and he's found his second in the form of “Handsome” Tony Ferrer (Roberto Sanchez), a loan shark preying on the Cuban community. Dexter learned about Ferrer through Batista, who told the story of Rene Carballo, one of Ferrer's victims. Ferrer lent René money, and when he threatened him for it, he inadvertently shot René's mother in the head.. Later, René killed himself out of guilt. All over Original sin episodes 2 and 3, Dexter was investigating the cold case file and ended up approaching Ferrer under the alias Patrick Bateman.

After borrowing money from him and manipulating Ferrer into firing a warning shot at a tree, Dexter was able to confirm that he killed René's mother. After receiving Harry's blessing, Dexter knocked out Ferrer and took him to the jai alai arena, where they met for the first time to kill him. Dexter interrogated Ferrer, got him to confess to his murder, and knocked him out by throwing a jai alai ball at him, which also caused a cut on his right cheek in the classic Dexter style. So, Dexter ended Ferrer's life and took him to the Everglades to be abandoned.

1

Dexter's Everglades Trash Dump Could Land Him in Hot Water

Dexter's crocodiles haven't completely gotten rid of Tony Ferrer and could launch an investigation

Ferrer's death does not appear to be the end of him, however. Dexter brought her corpse to the same place in the Everglades where he dumped Nurse Mary's body and fed the loan shark to the alligators again. This time, however, the crocodiles missed a spot and Ferrer's arm – with a single ring still attached – was not eaten.. Ferrer was a known criminal and his fingerprints are almost certainly in the Miami Metro database, which could be a big problem for Dexter. Dexter also threw Mary's earrings into the water, so if the police find Ferrer's arm, they could also find evidence of Nurse Mary's murder.

Dexter also threw Mary's earrings into the water, so if the police find Ferrer's arm, they could also find evidence of Nurse Mary's murder.

Dexter's trash dump in the Everglades could cause big problems for him in upcoming episodes of Original sinbut they will also allow the prequel show to portray an important part of Dexter's modus operandi. Throughout the original show, Dexter dumped bodies by dismembering them and throwing them into the Atlantic Ocean via his boat, the Slice of Life. Ferrer's arm will almost certainly force Dexter to find a new way to dispose of the bodies, so the prequel series could soon show how Dexter got his boat and started dismembering his victims. In any case, Dexter: Original Sin looks ready to turn up the heat.
