Notice! Spoilers for Netflix's No Good Deed ahead!
Dennis was sure he had sarcoidosis in No good deedbut everything worked out in the end. Netflix's dark comedy follows three couples and their various secrets as they try to buy a house in Los Feliz, one of which is Dennis and Carla (OT Fagbenle and Teyonah Parris). The two recently got married and have a son on the way, and Dennis especially thinks that Paul and Lydia Morgan's (Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow) home would be the perfect place to raise him. However, No good deed sees Dennis worry that he won't live long enough to see this happen.
Dennis was raised by a single mother, Denise, with whom he maintained a frustratingly close relationship during his marriage to Carla. For a while, it even looked like Denise would help the couple buy the Morgan house and move in with them. However, things fell apart when Dennis consulted a doctor and discovered that his late father's history of sarcoidosis, combined with some warning signs in his own health, could spell trouble. This potential diagnosis led to the discovery of a great secret at the end of No good deedBut what does it all mean?
What is sarcoidosis and why Dennis thinks he doesn't have it for good measure
Dennis was convinced he wasn't dying without a good deed
According to the Mayo Clinicsarcoidosis is “a disease characterized by the growth of small collections of inflammatory cells (granulomas) anywhere in the body.” These cells most commonly develop in the lungs and lymph nodes, and although the disease is usually very controllable, it can lead to death in rare cases. Dennis's father had sarcoidosis and died from the disease, leaving Denise alone to raise her son.
In No good deedDennis went to the doctor and had some blood tests, and it was discovered that he had high calcium levels. While this is not necessarily cause for concern in and of itself, Dennis' family history of sarcoidosis raised some alarm bells. He scheduled a CT scan, but all of that was basically in vain.
Was Dennis really diagnosed with sarcoidosis?
Dennis' mother was keeping a big secret
No good deed never reveals the results of Dennis' CT scan, but other details revealed by the Netflix series finale suggest that he has not been diagnosed with sarcoidosis. The only reason this disease was a concern in the first place was because Dennis' father had died from it. However, Denise revealed that her late husband wasn't actually Dennis' biological father. This meant he could not have inherited that man's sarcoidosis.
The end of No Good Deed saw Dennis happy and healthy, eager to move to Los Feliz (though not Morgan's house).
There is often a genetic component involved in sarcoidosis, but it can also be diagnosed in individuals without a family history. Still, given Dennis' lack of symptoms other than high calcium levels, it's doubtful he would have been diagnosed. The end of No good deed saw Dennis happy and healthy, eager to move to Los Feliz (though not Morgan's house), so it is assumed that his sarcoidosis scare came to nothing – other than him discovering the truth about his father.
