The second trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Panther debuted. The sequence begins immediately after Den of Thieves as Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien (Gerard Butler) tracks down Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) after his escape to Europe. Den of Thieves 2Donnie’s story is already underway with his plan involving a massive heist on the largest diamond exchange in the world. In addition to the return of Butler and Jackson, Meadow Williams reprises her role as Holly from the first film.
Now, Lionsgate released the second trailer for Den of Thieves 2showing Nick’s search for Donnie takes a surprising turn when he apparently joins forces with him. Watch the trailer below:
While Nick promises to catch Donnie, claiming that no one ever escapes him, he pretends not to recognize Donnie when authorities have footage of him. Most importantly, Nick joins Donnie’s latest heist and begins working alongside him, with Donnie declaring that “the policeman becomes a gangster” while Nick creates chaos across Europe.
What does this mean for Den Of Thieves 2
Nick’s role will be different in the sequel
Nick and Donnie working together provides a significant change from the previous film. Although Nick’s skills make it seem like he’s thriving as a member of Donnie’s latest heist, it’s hard to believe that Nick is now a full-blown criminal. Den of ThievesThe ending made Nick realize that Donnie was the mastermind behind the robbery. To catch Donnie this time, Nick needs to find a way to trick him.with his strategy apparently being to go undercover and sabotage this new heist from the inside.
Donnie will no doubt be wary of Nick suddenly becoming a criminal, while Nick will need some convincing as to why he willingly joined this robbery.
With Butler and Jackson leading Den of Thieves 2cast, it makes sense give Nick and Donnie more scenes together and further complicate their dynamic. Donnie will no doubt be wary of Nick suddenly becoming a criminal, while Nick will need some convincing as to why he willingly joined this robbery. This will likely lead to an explosive ending, featuring a violent confrontation between the two characters, as the outcome of the robbery and their lives hang in the balance.
Our opinion on the Den Of Thieves 2 trailer
The sequel will provide payoff for the ending of the first film
The first Den of Thieves is underrated and is one of Gerard Butler’s best action films. Given the unfinished business between Nick and Donnie at the end of the first film, a sequel was definitely neededbut the subsequent story is proving to be even more compelling than anticipated, given the story direction hinted at in the marketing. Den of Thieves 2: Panther is shaping up to be a rewarding sequel that amplifies all of the best elements of its predecessor.
