My Hero Academia The story focuses heavily on UA high school students, but fans often wonder about the families of these would-be heroes. Some parents, like Todoroki’s father Endeavor, are unfortunately cruel and disrespectful towards their children, but others show their children unwavering love and support no matter what. One of these admirable parents is Inko Midoriya, Deku’s mother, who wholeheartedly applauded him throughout his hero’s journey, even during the most difficult, stressful, and even life-threatening moments.
In the third season of My Hero Academia, following the horrific kidnapping of UA student Bakugo by the League of Villains, it was decided that it would be safer for the school’s students to live on campus in protected dormitories. UA teachers visited students’ homes to inform parents of the plan, but not everyone was receptive to this idea. Deku’s mother, Inko Midoriya, did not agree with Deku’s move in any way. When All Might, the one who gave Deku his Quirk, came to talk to her, she was completely against the idea, telling All Might that she would not allow Deku to go.
All Might’s controversial conversation with Inko actually proves his love for Deku
Inko feared for her only son’s life, explaining why she was afraid to send him back to UA High
The conversation between Inko and All Might in Season 3, Episode 12, “End of the Beginning, Beginning of the End”, was controversial because of Inko’s initial refusal. Not only did she not give Deku permission to move into the new UA dorms, but she also also threatened to remove him from UA High completely because of the injuries Deku suffered protecting Kota from the villain Muscular at the training camp and rescuing Bakugo from the League of Villains and All For One. Many fans were frustrated and confused by Inko’s choice, but it makes perfect sense and her reasoning is quite moving.
Inko told All Might that Deku’s safety is her top priority, and she feared that sending him back to UA would mean sending him to imminent death. She blamed herself for allowing him to attend, taking personal responsibility for Deku’s injuries. The tears she shed and the heartfelt words she spoke to All Might proved his deep care for his only son. After All Might carefully explained to Inko that he would care for Deku and protect him with his life, begging on his knees for the chance to mold Deku into his successor, Inko’s mind changed.
Inko put aside her own fears for Deku’s benefit, showing her selflessness
Although this caused worry and stress, Inko made the best choice for Deku’s success, safety, and happiness.
Like any parent, Inko wants to protect her child from dangerous situations, especially those that would threaten his life. However, she also began to see Deku and All Might’s perspective on the matter as soon as they spoke to her. Deku showed his mother the letter that Kota sent after Deku saved him from Muscular, and All Might explained that he saw great potential in Deku and felt that he was the only correct choice to be the future Symbol of Peace. Inko was still worried , but she finally allowed Deku to gotelling All Might that all she really wanted was for Deku to “be happy.”
Inko’s change of heart and willingness to let Deku leave her, even though it caused her immense stress, further reveals what an excellent mother she is. In this case, she put her personal feelings aside and allowed Deku to follow the path that would give him the greatest success and fulfillment of his goals, while also sternly warning All Might that he needed to protect Deku from danger as much as possible. This sensible and balanced decision allowed Deku to move to the UA High dorms, continue to thrive in the hero program and save countless lives.
Throughout the series, she has shown a pattern of caring for her son no matter what.
From designing his hero costume to always rooting for him, Inko is a phenomenal mother
Inko showed a pattern of putting Deku’s needs above your own and always prioritizing his joy while being honest with him and offering just the right amount of protection. When Deku was a child and without Quirk, she supported Deku’s dreams of becoming a hero and his love for All Might. But as he got older, she also encouraged him to be sensible and realize how difficult it can be to get into a hero course without a Quirk. She didn’t outright reject Deku’s wishes, but she also refused to lie to him and gave him honest advice.
When Deku received a Quirk from All Might, she continued to stay with Deku as he embarked on a new chapter as a student at UA High. She applauded him when he appeared on television at the sports festival, made him a hero costume, and showed a genuine interest in his life and achievements. All of these moments prove how great of a mother Inko is to Deku. No parent is perfect and no one gets it right one hundred percent of the time, but Inko always does her best to take Deku’s needs, desires, and well-being into consideration when making parenting decisions.
Not all parents in My Hero Academy It’s admirable, making Inko a rare gem
Unfortunately, not every character has a supportive father, including Hawks, Todoroki, and Toga.
Not every character in the series is blessed to have a supportive father, as evidenced by the abuse Todoroki suffers from Endeavor, Hawks’ neglectful and offensive parents, and Toga’s parents’ mistreatment of her. Deku always expresses gratitude for having a mother who loves him with all her heart no matter what, and the two have a very close relationship. Deku’s father doesn’t actually appear in My Hero Academia, so Inko is the only parent present. Although Inko is by no means perfect, she is a phenomenal example of a caring mother, and her undeniable love for Deku helps him become an even better hero.
