Deadpool’s return in Avengers: Doomsday Or Avengers: Secret Wars Seems like an inevitable and tantalizing part of the upcoming MCU Multiverse Saga releases – but also one I hope won’t step too heavily on the toes of the past when it comes to Iron Man or Avengers: Endgame. Deadpool & Wolverine is now one of the 11 MCU movies to make over $1 billion at the box office, with fans already clamoring for more appearances from the Merc With A Mouth and his new Wolverine ally. Helpfully, these wishes come true in the MCU’s upcoming releases.
The multiverse saga is inherently set to have a huge swath of crossovers in it Avengers: Secret WarsAnd the teases for the story of Avengers 5 And 6 – who have alluded to incursions and an impending multiversal war more than once – naturally align figures like Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool appear alongside the likes of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Man. However, introducing Deadpool into a major MCU crossover presents a few more complications for the franchise, and while I’m ecstatic that he’s likely to return, the MCU needs to be careful about their approach.

Deadpool has already been shown to know about the MCU Iron Man in Deadpool and Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine skirts around the topic of Avengers: Endgame By Deadpool journey to the main timeline of the MCU before the events of the movie take place, visit in 2018 before even Avengers: Infinity War has occurred. However, future prospective crossovers with Deadpool – viz Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Wars are theorized to be – cannot avoid the matter in the same way.
Like the next Avengers movie to come right after End gameBoth releases ideally need to address the events that came before it and his missing team members along the way, and that also means they have jokes about them from the Merc With A Mouth If Deadpool is in the installment. Deadpool is canonically shown to consider Iron Man the figurehead of the Avengers – asking Happy Hogan where he is and why he isn’t leading interviews for the Avengers in Deadpool & Wolverine himself – so the antihero not addressing his glaring away would seem almost more out of place.
But with Deadpool’s movie jokes hitting so hard so often – and Deadpool & Wolverine Paying testament to this with some jabs at harsh realities of Marvel movies en masse and the MCU specifically – it’s hard not to have a little trepidation about how these two worlds can connect without cornerstones like Iron Man’s legacy and End game Death took a hit. Marvel proved that nothing is totally sacred when Deadpool dug up Wolverine’s skeleton from his death in Logan And used it for a jazzy fight scene, but things are still a little more sensitive in the MCU at the moment.
The MCU’s Infinity Saga jokes have a less than stellar track record
Deadpool’s jokes would need to break a history of divisive comedy
Deadpool’s ability to disappear Avengers: Endgame And events like Iron Man’s death seem a little more fraught from the outside because the MCU has had mixed success in addressing things like the Snap In recent history. While releases like WandaVision And The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Did a good job of contextualizing the aftermath of the Infinity Saga and how the world changed as a result, some jokes about this time saw a more sour response, partly because they downplay and dampen the significance of the biggest moments in MCU history.
A prime example of this is the Infinity Conez New Asgard shop in Thor: Love and ThunderWhich partly helped contribute to complaints that the movie was overly comedic in a way that harmed its story. While it’s obviously only meant to be a joke, it’s one that divides the audience, as Thanos’ attack in Avengers: Infinity War On the Asgardians in order to obtain Space Stone wiped out such a huge number of their population that they create a cute ice cream parlor that alludes to his conquest seems jarring.
Similarly, though Loki was one of the best-received MCU shows in franchise history, it also saw some critical reception for showing versions of the Infinity Stones used as paperweights in the Time Variance Authority’s base in season 1. While none of these moments were outrageous, they shows how the MCU’s jokes and comedic moments can serve to inadvertently undermine the most resonant and significant parts of the franchise’s history, raising questions about how effectively it can handle something like Deadpool’s comedy without eroding the emotional weight of his past.
How the MCU Can Include Deadpool in Avengers 5 and 6 Without Ruining the Franchise’s Legacy
Deadpool was still included in the later releases of the multiverse saga
with Deadpool & Wolverine Having proven so successful, not factoring the titular characters into the main crossover chapters of the multiverse saga would feel a bit like the franchise shooting itself in the foot.As much as there are natural concerns about the MCU’s track record at joking about its past. As such, it stands to reason that the best foot forward for the franchise is to ensure none of Deadpool’s jokes about Iron Man or End game Are based more around Wade being late to the party, which would tie in nicely Deadpool & Wolverine And his Earth-616 visit.
It is also worth noting that Deadpool & Wolverine Custom-built a way for the MCU to avoid leaning into the more biting side of Deadpool’s wit by setting him up with a side storyline involving a major Avenger — namely, Thor. Since Deadpool & Wolverine Showed Thor crying over Deadpool but never explained when it happened or why, as Deadpool sticks with Thor in a perspective Avengers: Doomsday Or Avengers: Secret Wars The story would make sense and ensure that more dunking on the Avengers could instead be focused on the God of Thunder.
Keeping focused on Thor not only works best because he’s still alive and thus builds his legacy, but also because it gives the MCU a way to directly address complaints about the likes of Thor: Love and Thunder. From this perspective, the movies thus have the opportunity to indicate the direction in which they will take the hero forward, to ensure that one of the last original Avengers will be right – something that Deadpool & Wolverine Shown in a sense by Happy Hogan in Wade’s firing line instead of Tony Stark himself.
That is, with a team of talented creatives at the helm Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret WarsThe movies will likely be able to handle even the entire Deadpool core showing up and making jabs at the MCU. As long as the history itself is testament to all the franchise has built, the future can undoubtedly remain bright – although there is certainly an element of concern that can be a priority when it comes to making the next step forward.
