A new version of Blade is set to debut in the next Marvel Animation film Marvel Zombies series, proving Wesley Snipes’ Blade Deadpool and Wolverine very wrong. Before Mahershala Ali was introduced as the new Eric Brooks, aka Blade, in the MCU, Wesley Snipes reprized the role of Blade trilogy, which lasted between 1998 and 2004. Snipes returned in Deadpool and Wolverine alongside the likes of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keen’s Laura, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, each paying respects and making jokes about their previous stints in their respective superhero films.
Mahershala Ali made a cameo appearance as Blade in Eternals’ post-credits scene, but the development of his first solo film, Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot, it’s been incredibly tumultuous. Blade has now been postponed indefinitely, which makes one of Wesley Snipes’ jokes Deadpool and Wolverine even more prevalent. Now, however, Marvel has quickly proven Wesley Snipes’ Blade wrong, as a new iteration of the Daywalker will be introduced in the upcoming animated film. Marvel Zombies series, scheduled to premiere in October 2025.
Marvel Zombies will introduce another Blade variant
On October 30, Marvel Studios released a preview of its Disney+ releases for the rest of 2024 and 2025, revealing new images for many upcoming shows, including the Marvel Zombies series. Although brief, the new footage from Marvel Zombies revealed that a Blade variant will be introduced into the series. Blade is seen fighting zombies alongside Yelena Belova and Red Guardianwhich should reveal more about these three new Marvel heroes, who have currently seen little development in the live-action MCU.
It’s unclear whether the Blade version in Marvel Zombies will be voiced by Mahershala Ali. The Oscar-winning actor is said to still be in good spirits about the development of the MCU Blade reboot, despite a series of major delays and loss of writers and directors. The version of Blade in Marvel Zombies looks entirely different from Wesley Snipes’ previous portrayal and is far from what one expects from the MCU’s iteration of Mahershala Alidismissing an unusual and controversial comment in Deadpool and Wolverine.
Blade in Marvel Zombies proves Deadpool and Wolverine’s Blade wrong
Wesley Snipes’ Blade isn’t the only one
Finding Yourself in the Void at the End of Time Deadpool and WolverineRyan Reynolds and Jackman’s eponymous heroes joined the Resistance team in the battle against Cassandra Nova. It was great to see Wesley Snipes reprise his role as Blade after 20 years, but it raised some concerns about the lack of focus on Mahershala Ali’s new version of Daywalker. This was most prominent when Snipes’ Blade stated that “There was only one Blade, [and] there will always be only one blade.”
This was a joke about the MCU’s difficult production period Blade film, as it may have seemed that Mahershala Ali’s Blade would never truly grace the screen after its Eternals debut. The new footage from Marvel Zombies completely refutes this line, however, as a new Blade is about to be introduced into the MCU. Either way, this joke didn’t make much sense, as Sticky Fingaz previously played Blade in the TV series of the same name, and Ali voiced the character in the MCU, and many other versions of the character have appeared in various animated projects.
Why Blade’s appearance in Marvel Zombies is so exciting
Blade appears fused with another hero in Marvel Zombies
In the new footage of Marvel ZombiesBlade can curiously be seen with glowing white eyes and a white cape. This has led some to speculate that this universe’s version of Blade could be the avatar of the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu, making him this reality’s Moon Knight. In the MCU, Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector is Moon Knight, the Fist of Vengeance, but it would be interesting to see Blade operate with the incredible powers granted by Khonshu’s possession in Marvel Zombies. As two great supernatural heroes, this could be a perfect match.
Released on Disney+, Marvel Zombies is the sequel to What If…? episode 5, where an animated version of the MCU is invaded by zombies. It follows a new set of survivors, including Shang-Chi, Katy Chen, Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Jimmy Woo, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian and Death Dealer.
