Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 8.Superman and Lois revealed that Tyler Hoechlin’s version of DC’s Man of Steel is heading down a tragic path, and I can’t believe it’s worse than I imagined. I always thought that Superman and Lois should end with Hoechlin’s Superman handing over his superhero mantle to Alex Garfin’s Jordan. Then, Superman and Lois The season 4 cast has two Superboys, as it was revealed earlier in the season that Michael Bishop’s Jonathan Kent also has powers. Since then, I have seen a future where Clark Kent retired with Lois Laneand their children became heroes.
Superman and Lois Season 4 has hinted at Clark hanging up his cape on the future of the universe. Since he was brought back to life, Superman is not at full strength. Worse than that, the hero becomes weaker as time passes. Sadly, Superman and Lois Season 4, Episode 8 sets up this storyline to have a tragic ending that is somehow sadder than I had imagined for the hero. There are still two episodes left before the end of the live-action DC show, but things aren’t looking good for Clark.
Season 4 of Superman and Lois confirms the worst for Clark Kent and his powers
John Henry Irons returns to deliver bad news
Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman saw his powers falter several times since he came back to life. Some memorable moments include Clark falling from the sky while running with Jon near the Fortress of Solitude and the Man of Steel initially not hearing the brick that was thrown at the Smallville Gazette’s window before shattering the glass. The latter is what prompted John Henry Irons, who I was happy to finally see return after a long absence, to take Clark back to his garage and examine him for an answer.
Although I expected the scan to reveal that Superman’s powers were fading, I didn’t realize the situation was as dire as Steel revealed. There appears to be no way for the Man of Steel to regain all of his powers, and other than just declining to the point of eventually losing all of his abilities, Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent may end up dying sooner than expected. The reason for this is that General Sam Lane’s heart is not compatible with his Kryptonian body. Clark could only live up to it when Lane did.
Superman and Lois’ power-switching plot makes their ending even more dramatic
Lex Luthor is on the rise
This bombshell revelation couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Superman and Lois The last episode of Season 4 did something I thought was going to happen since we got our first glimpse of Lex Luthor’s power suit in a teaser. Episode 8 ends with Milton Fine successfully stole John Henry Irons’ steel suit for Lex and making modifications that transform it into a version of DC Comics villain Superman’s classic battle suit. Lex Luthor, by Michael Cudlitz, and Superman, by Tyler Hoechlin, could not follow more different paths than they are.
Lex Luthor is gaining strength at a time when Superman is at his most fragile state ever. I’m afraid of what this might mean. Superman and Lois season 4, episode 8, defeated two of Superman’s allies for his final fight with Lexas Starlight’s suit was destroyed by Jon and Jordan after he went rogue and attacked them, while Steel’s suit was taken over by Luthor. Jordan was previously unable to take Lex down, meaning he and Jonathan may not be able to do it alone if Clark loses his powers. There’s a chance Lex Luthor could kill Superman for good.
After 3 years, it’s hard not to find Superman and Lois’ setup for Clark’s ending moving
Superman’s story is ending tragically
I believe that if Superman and Lois ended with Clark losing his powers and retiring to live life as a human with Lois Lane while his children save the world, would have been the perfect ending to the series. However, I never expected that Clark’s heart would not only make his powers disappear, but end up deteriorating his body and potentially shortening its lifespan by a considerable margin. If Clark stopped Lex Luthor only to die a little while later or after however many years Sam Lane had left, it would be downright sad.
I got attached to Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent. He was already great in the role in a few appearances in the Arrowverse, but Superman and Lois made Hoechlin one of the best versions of Superman of all time. Seeing him die many years before Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane, due to the age of Sam Lane’s heart, would be extremely tragic. I’m still hopeful that a show about a hero like Superman could find a way for Clark to lose his powers and simply retire instead of dying younger than expected. Superman and Lois season 4.
Superman and Loisthe Arrowverse’s seventh spinoff series, will take the titular characters from Metropolis to Smallville. The CW series is set after the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, which saw the collapse of the multiverse and the merging of worlds into what is now Earth Prime. Superman and Lois sees Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) dealing with all the pressures of their jobs, as well as being parents to two teenage children. Lois and Clark are no strangers to the Arrowverse, with Hoechlin’s Superman having been introduced way back when. Supergirl season 2. Meanwhile, Tulloch’s Lois made her debut in 2018’s “Elseworlds” crossover. The pair are joined by a growing cast of characters that includes a new iteration of Lana Lang.
