Notice! This article contains spoilers for Creature Commandos episode 3.
Creature Commands
is the debut show at UDC
and in episode 3, it already presents strong characters that could be perfect for future projects, with one that would be perfect for Daniel Craig. In 2022, the DCEU announced a total overhaul with James Gunn and Peter Safran stepping in to take over and lead the newly formed DC Studios in an entirely new direction. As a result, the DCU was born and several projects were announced early on, including the next Superman film, a Batman film, and Creature Commands.
Creature Commands was a highlight in the lineup of announced projects, as the characters are considerably more obscure than most of the other projects included in the lineup. However, now that Creature Commands is available to stream, the show is starting to build out the DC Universe in detail, with characters and actors expected to play their roles in both animated and live-action projects. Among them, there is a character who would be perfect for Daniel Craigdespite the actor not taking on the voice.
Creature Commandos debuts Sgt Rock in the DCU
Sgt Rock and The Rest Of Easy Company were the first GI Robot family
Creature Commands episode 3 delves into the history of the GI Robot. GI Robot is one of the main members of Task Force M, and its origins until now were simply a robot used in World War II to help fight the Nazis. But episode 3 oscillates between the World War II setting, where GI fights alongside his comrades in Easy Companyand the present, when working with Creature Commands.
Although Easy Company only appears briefly in the episode, they make a lasting impression, and one character in particular Sergeant Rock, would be perfect for Daniel Craig. Sergeant Rock is voiced by Maury Sterling in Creature CommandsBut that doesn't mean Craig couldn't take on the role in live-action. Leader of his small group, he welcomes GI to the group after a firefight where the robot proves to be an incredible asset. It is at this moment that he declares “Three cheers for the Tin Man”, giving the character a nickname, which is synonymous with the Rock comic book character Sgt.
Superhero Fans Deserve a WWII Movie (and Marvel Jumped in Too Quickly)
An interesting and unique comic book movie without superheroes
Daniel Craig is a skilled actor who elevates the projects he appears in, and a role as Sgt. Rock would be a perfect way to bring him into the DCU. While it is It's not very typical for modern comics to deal with a topic like World War IIFollowing war heroes used to be a big part of comics released throughout the 20th century. And for an actor like Craig, it would probably take something a little out of the ordinary to catch the actors' attention.
Sergeant Rock leading Easy Company in World War II and especially exploring his friendship with GI Robot and their missions together could be an incredible and unique premise for a comic book movie that would give fans something completely new. And although Marvel has teased this in Captain America: The First Avengerreally only featured a few scenes with Cap taking action with the Howling Commandos. The rest of the time he did propaganda for the US military. THE DCU has a chance to do it rightand with Craig leading the charge, it's sure to be spectacular.
Daniel Craig's Sgt Rock Could Build on What Creature Commandos Already Did
Daniel Craig has the talent to make this type of film work in the DCU
There's a clear path for Craig to take on the role and star as the live-action Sergeant. Rock, and honestly, it would help a lot to build the story in Creature Commandsand GI Robot specifically. The project could be a DC Elseworlds film, which explores the history of Easy Company and the war efforts in the DCU, as they appear to have highly advanced automatons. That would be allow the GI Robot's backstory to be developed further and keep things in the realm of the fantastical, which is emblematic of comic book movies.
It would also have a similar tone to Creature Commands in terms of having a gritty tone and seeing a ragtag bunch of soldiers come together to form a team of heroes. Sergeant Rock doesn't have any powers in the comics, so it's likely the story would be grounded in more ways than just the killer robot, but it would make an amazing movie where Daniel Craig could really deliver a special performance for the UDC.
