David Dastmalchian's One Piece Season 2 Villain Will Look Much More Impressive in Netflix's Live-Action Show Compared to the Manga and Anime

Mr. 3 was more of a joke character than a serious villain in One piece anime, but David Dastmalchian's live-action version will seem like a much more severe threat to Monkey D. Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates. The Netflix adaptation teased Baroque Works during its first season, and the criminal organization is now set to play a major role in One piece season 2. Led by Joe Manganiello's Crocodile, Baroque Works' contingent of villains will also include lower-ranking members like Mr. 9 (Daniel Lasker), Miss Valentine (Jazzara Jaslyn), Mr. Dastmalchian, Mr. 3.

Node One piece Eiichiro Oda's anime and manga series, Mr. 3 was never more than a minor antagonist. He briefly caused some trouble for the Straw Hats on Little Garden Island, but was soon defeated by Luffy without putting up much of a fight. Additionally, Mr. 3 was consistently portrayed as a comedy character, not a boss villain like Crocodile or Arlong. A ridiculous hairstyle and wax-based Devil Fruit powers made Mr. 3 difficult to take seriously, and One piece leaned into this by having Luffy use the villain's own hair against him, among other fun moments.

Mr.3 defeating Brogy will seem more impressive after recent One Piece manga developments

Mr. 3 didn't get enough credit at the time

David Dastmalchian's version of Mr. 3 may not be played for laughs as openly, and his fight against Brogy is the biggest reason for that. Original by Oda One piece The story saw Mr. 3 subdue the giant Brogy - not necessarily in a fair fight, but the Baroque Works agent still managed to take down his gargantuan opponent. At the time, this feat seemed reasonably impressive, but not a game-changing victory. One piecestronger characters. Brogy was evidently strong, but One pieceLittle Garden's Little Garden arc gave no suggestion that Mr. 3's victory over the giant was surprising or unexpected.

David Dastmalchian's Mr. 3 will look like a real monster rather than just a crazy candle enthusiast with silly hair.

Most recent developments in One piece manga completely altered the context surrounding Mr. 3 defeating Brogy in Little Garden. In the Egghead Island arc, Dorry and Brogy help the Straw Hats escape the Gorosei – some of the strongest villains in the entire franchise. The giants face off against vice-admiral-level marines and as a result receive gigantic rewards of 1.8 billion berries.

One pieceThe next arc, set in the giants' home, Elbaph, accentuates how much stronger the giants are compared to other races. The island's usurper prince, Loki, reveals that Elbaph contains the so-called strongest country in the entire world. One piece map, Warland. Since Dorry and Brogy are captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, they must be elites, even among their own kind.

All this is to say that Dorry and Brogy are actually much more powerful than One piece let's go when they first appeared. The fact that Mr. 3 managed to take down Brogy, therefore, is much more surprising in retrospect than it was at the time. When this moment happens in Netflix live-action One piece adaptation, David Dastmalchian's Mr. 3 will look like a real monster rather than just a crazy candle enthusiast with silly hair.

Netflix's Live-Action One Piece Looks Ready to Make Mr. 3 a Bigger Deal

Could Mr. 3 be the main villain of One Piece season 2?

Usopp, Nami, Luffy, Sanji and Zoro form a circle in the Going Merry in Netflix's live-action One Piece.

One piece Season 2 portraying Mr. 3 as significantly stronger than his anime counterpart actually makes sense in the broader context of Netflix's live-action show. To begin with, David Dastmalchian is one of the most well-known names on Netflix. One piece cast so far, especially after starring in the 2024 horror hit Late at night with the devil. It seems unlikely that a renowned Dastmalchian actor would play a small role like Mr. 3 does in One piece anime and manga, suggesting that their rivalry with the Straw Hats will resonate beyond Little Garden alone.

Turning Mr. 3 into a more prominent villain also makes sense when looking at how much of the source material One piece season 2 will adapt. According to Oda himself, One pieceThe next few episodes will stop just before the Alabasta arc. Although Joe Manganiello's Killer Croc appears in Season 2, he's unlikely to become the show's main threat until One piece season 3. With Crocodile restricted to a backseat role, Mr. 3 could become a more prominent enemyallowing the adaptation to make the most of the casting of a big name like David Dastmalchian.

For Mr. 3 to work as a big boss in One piece in Season 2, however, he would need a considerable power-up compared to the anime character, which is why the fight with Brogy becomes so important. If Netflix One piece can sell how seismic Mr. 3's victory against a giant is - something the anime and manga never did - Dastmalchian could evolve into an incredibly terrifying villain and a worthy replacement until Crocodile properly arrives on the scene.

Based on the popular manga/anime series, One Piece is Netflix's live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's story. The show follows the exploits of a band of pirates, the Straw Hats, led by the energetic and adventure-loving Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy is a young man cursed with strange powers after accidentally eating a mysterious fruit. With his friends Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji, Luffy will cross the vast ocean to find the legendary treasure, One Piece.
