Dave Bautista shares an exciting update on his 2025 directorial debut
It is penned by the latest Showgirl screenwriter and highlights Bautista’s directorial passion.
Screen Rant: This is a movie packed with a fantastic ensemble cast. If you could hire one of your co-stars to do a hitman job in a totally fictional world, who would you choose and why?
Dave Bautista: I would probably pick Sofia. Did you see her at Hotel Diana? There’s just something mysterious and badass about her, though [unassuming]As they will not see her. Yes. So it would be Sophia.
Last time you told me you had set to direct your movie in 2025. Have you made any progress on that?
Dave Bautista: Yes, making progress, with the script written. The script was written by the writer who wrote the film for which I recently premiered, The Last Showgirl. Kate Gersten is her name. She is writing my script, my passion project, and I hope to direct it sometime next year.

Sofia Boutella is thrilled to be reunited with Dave Bautista
“I was trying to be the fish around him that tickles him and then pushes his buttons in a fun way.”
Screen Rant: You’re dating Dave. Last time you worked with him was Hotel Artemis. What it was like to connect with him The killer’s game?
Sofia Boutella: It was fun. It was a lot of fun because we didn’t [many] Scenes together at Hotel Artemis. I think we have one scene actually together, but we don’t interact in it. But in this, we interact a lot.
He is the big man, very imposing with all that strength, and I wanted to do something a little contrasting with him that worked perfectly with our personalities. On set every time, I was trying to be the fish around him that tickles him and then pushes his button in a fun way. And so, yeah, it was a lot of fun getting together.

Terry Crews clarifies that Everyone Still Hates Chris is not a reboot
“There were literally more stories to tell, and it was over.”
Screen Rant: Now, tell me about your character in the film and working with Dave.
Terry Crews: Well, Lovedahl is an assassin who has a history with Joe Flood played by Dave Batista, but the big thing is that he’s a throwback. Lovedahl is old school. He’s like a blaxploitation character. He thinks everyone else is out of style. You know what I’m saying? They don’t understand the game. They don’t understand the music. They don’t understand what love is.
We even have this killer app, but you have to kill with style. You have to kill the right way. You know what I mean? I love the story, and I think that the good thing is that the way they’re allowing this is that we can continue and we can continue to grow the world, continue to grow all this stuff. We can only continue expanding.
I want to see a sequel. I think with the reactions I’m seeing right now, people love the film and it’s just perfect right now. I think it’s the perfect length too. If it was four hours, no, it’s like an hour and 20 and bow. It hurts you. It comes at you fast, and it’s just so much fun.
I will ask you about reprising your role as Julius in Everyone still hates ChrisThe animated series. What can fans expect from this revival?
Terry Crews: You can expect a continuation of the same thing. See, remember we did four seasons, and we cut. There were literally more stories to tell, and it was over. We literally pick up where the show left off. People like to call it a reboot, but it’s not. It’s me, Tashina [Arnold]Chris Rock. It’s the originals, and we’re literally continuing the story right where it left off. So my thing is that you can actually watch the first four seasons and go right into the animated as if it never ended.

Marco Zaror Explains Why “There’s No Killer Game Without JJ”
Screen Rant: You’ve known JJ for a long time, you guys worked on The rundown Together. Talk to me about what his directing style added The killer’s game.
Marko Zaror: It’s the killer’s game. There is no The Killer’s Game without JJ. For me, for example, the challenge of creating a dancer fighter mix, the only way is to have a vision of a director who understands how to tell the story.
That’s why it allowed me to get this far and go, okay, I’m going to create a new style where I mix flamenco with martial arts and it has to look deadly, and we have to tell the story. JJ was the person who was able to have the visions to go, how are we going to shoot this to tell the story? So yeah, it’s like in that, at least in the action part of it, that’s where I can go to make that decision.

JJ Perry Says Casting Dave Bautista Is ‘Winning The Lottery’
Screen Rant: You have such a fantastic ensemble in this film. Can you talk to me about the incredible cast in this film?
JJ Perry: So getting this movie for me was a big win, but getting Dave Bautista is winning the lottery. He brought with him Sofia Boutella, who killed it, Terry Crews and Drew McIntyre. And Marco Scott, Daniel Bernard, Lucy Cork, Shana West, these are all like my homegirls and homeboys that I’ve been working with for years.
I know him since the rundown. So when he was doubling The Rock and I was doubling Sean William Scott in 2003. So we all go way back. So if you’re going to get into a fight somewhere, what are you going to do? You call all your homies. So I was like, hey, I need your help. Everyone just showed up and there we were.

The author says that The Killer’s Game was Dave Bautista’s chance to do a romantic comedy
Screen Rant: Dave is such a phenomenal actor and I feel that due to his size and looks, he’s underrated a little bit and I think he has so much range to him. Talk to me about what Dave brings to the role of Joe in the film.
Jay Bonansinga: I know, I got some inside information that he really wanted to do a love story. He wanted to do a romcom or a love story or something, and Andrew Lazar, the great producer that I’ve been indebted to for 30 years, he said, well, how about a romcom with a lot of shooting and body heat and squibs?
But it’s a romcom and he’s right. It’s a romcom. And James Coyne, who is one of the two writers, he kind of pumps up the humor in my book. I have this droll dark humor and he pumps it up. So this movie is like my book on acid. It’s really an amazing transformation.
