Anna’s decision to betray Jacinta was not limited to a personal grudge with the antagonist. Although the Union seemed like a peaceful and trustworthy group to begin with, their desire to prove that Laurent was immune Undead led them to take extreme measures and descend into villainy. While it’s unclear whether Anna knew exactly their plan, she understood that France was not safe for Laurent, hence his sacrifice in the end.
While guiding Jacinta and her soldiers around the racetrack, Anna had a flashback that showed her talking to Laurent about the Eiffel Tower, where she told the child: “I hope you come home soon.” The conversation repeated itself in his head just before he decided in which direction to take Jacinta’s troops, making it clear that Laurent influenced Anna’s decision to do the right thing.
