Daniel Craig has been winning praise for his performance in Queer since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, and now the first trailer has finally arrived. Based on the novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs, the drama also stars Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman and Lesley Manville. It follows Craig’s William Lee, an expatriate living in Mexico City during the 1940s, who begins pursuing a young man named Eugene Allerton (Starkey) in hopes of making some kind of romantic connection. Reviews for Queer were highly positive, indicating it as Craig’s best performance of his career.
Now, A24 has already revealed the first trailer for Queerwhich should be released by the distributor next month. The trailer focuses on Craig’s character walking into a bar in Mexico City, trying to woo Starkey’s character in the process. The two continue to look at each other from afar, while having some conversations that indicate their romantic interest in each other. This apparently culminates in a night we spend together, sleeping with each other after watching movies.
The trailer then changes tone to show several symbolic images, such as Craig peering into a model home and seeing someone walking through it, and people wearing hats like masks shaking out a handful of leaves. Other events suggest intimate scenes between the main actors, the pair being threatened at gunpoint by a mysterious woman and an infinity-shaped snake eating its own tail while crying. It ends by confirming a release window in November. Check out the full trailer below:
