Daniel Craig talks about the future of the Knives Out franchise after Wake Up Dead Man

Daniel Craig clarifies whether he would return to the role of Benoit Blanc after the release of Wake up Dead Manstating what would bring him back to the franchise. The actor joined forces with director Rian Johnson for his 2019 debut Cop Knives out as gentleman detective Benoit Blanc, reprising his role in 2022 Glass Onion. In 2025, Johnson and Craig will reunite to Wake up Dead Manwhich also stars Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunas, Thomas Haden Church and Daryl McCormack.

As Craig opened up about the past, present and future of his career with Varietythe actor addressed Benoit Blanc's future after his third feature. When asked if he could imagine playing the detective beyond Wake up Dead Manhe was open to returning. For Craig, his involvement was a guarantee, as long as the writing was as consistent as that of the first two films:

If Johnson keeps writing like this, then yes, I will play.

The actor was disappointed behind the scenes

Although Craig is optimistic about his commitment to the Knives out franchise, it's hard to deny that some tensions may have left his future involvement up for debate. Both Craig and Johnson reportedly clashed with Netflix and its CEO Ted Saranados on the handling of the distribution of Glass Onionleading to an explicit exchange Craig had with the CEO during his debut.

Despite that, Knives outthe future of Netflix will not always depend on Netflix, as the streaming service only financed the two currently announced sequels. As such, should Johnson and Craig find them equally dissatisfied with the streaming service, they could look to other distributors and studios that would accommodate their desires. His backers may be on the fence, but the actor and director's desire to share more of Blanc's anecdotes is clear.

With his memorable accent, phrasing, and Craig's deliveries, his performances remain a highlight of each film, even if toward the end of the runtime he takes on a more supporting role to the film's true protagonists.

As such, when Craig's anxiety is combined with the character's reception among critics and audiences, it becomes clear that there is a desire to see more Blanc solving mysteries. The plot for Wake up Dead Man may be in hiding while audiences await its first teaser trailer, but Blanc stealing the show seems guaranteed, given Craig's past performances.
