With news from One piece hiatus, anime fans quickly looked for a different series to occupy themselves until April 2025, with Dan-Dan being an easy candidate. After screening the premiere and meeting with several important individuals involved in its production, I became increasingly excited about the future of Yukinobu Tatsu’s success. Shōnen Jump+ adaptation of the manga. But when I sat down to show the anime to my friend, a key One piece connection was pointed out to me, with Monkey D. Luffy voice actress Mayumi Tanaka acting as Turbo Granny in Dan Da Dan.
I had fallen One piece and I was intimidated by its extent when trying to pick it up again in adulthood. However, slowly reintroducing myself to the anime with its more beautiful new episodes has rekindled my appreciation for the franchise. As I’m always looking for future media to enjoy, Dan-Dan was a wild and surprisingly more absurd premise, but I never would have thought of such a fun connection between it and One piece. It’s a moving way to remind myself not only of the illustrious creative types involved in anime’s biggest stories, but also of its bright future.
Luffy’s One Piece voice actor is Turbo Granny in Dan Da Dan
Mayumi Tanaka Goes From Anime Pirate Treasure to Yokai Horror
Even after learning about the voice cast of Dan-Dansomething didn’t work out with Luffy’s voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka, lending talents honed over nearly fifty years to the voice of Turbo Granny. Given its representation of healthier icons, ranging from Legends of Mega Man’ Rock Volnutt and Dragon Ball Krillin for surprising cases like the Japanese dub of the titular pig in 1995 Deara sausage-eating yokai is a surprise. But, as my friend noticed, she herself has long ago One piece viewer, there was no doubt: Luffy’s voice actor captivates Dan-Dan fan hearts and family jewels.
Hearing the same voice actor command Okarun to kill his friend Momo and her grandmother in exchange for the rest of her reproductive organs in Dan-Dan episode 5 is a big surprise.
Given the generally upbeat personalities of other well-known characters portrayed by Tanaka, the rawness and sadism of Turbo Granny is a surprising but delightful change of pace. With a filmography that includes the incredibly cute King Enma Jr. Yu Yu Hakushohearing the same voice actor command Okarun to kill his friend Momo and her grandmother in exchange for the rest of her reproductive organs in Dan-Dan episode 5 is a big surprise. However, despite Turbo Granny’s cruelest twists in the series, his transfer to the maneki-neko ship is adorable enough to make him an impressive fit.
With One piece on hiatus until April 2025, I’m delighted with this fantastic casting choice, especially with how even Tanaka’s other Toei Animation mainstay, Krillin, doesn’t appear much in Dragon Ball DAIMA. In addition to her initial appearance in the Turbo Granny Arc, Tanaka gets a prominent and lasting role by being reassigned to the cutest, baddest lucky cat figurine around. But Mayumi Tanaka is not alone, as another One piece reunion took place in Dan-Dan episode #1.
More fun for One Piece fans beyond the initial Dan Da Dan arc
Give Zoro his bananas
Given Kazuya Nakai’s penchant for voicing sword-wielding tough guys in anime and video games, among other characters, your voice casting Dan-Dan like Serpoian aliens is another surprise for One piece fans. Although his appearance in the series seems more limited Dan-Dan viewers can rest assured that there’s a future with more Nakai, and he’ll bring an absurdist take on a beloved cryptid when the occasion arises. But even Zoro’s return is not the end of the One piece to Dan-Dan pipeline, as a quick conversion query might show.
At first, I figured this was just an example of voice actors’ busy schedules inevitably intersecting. However, In six of the seven cases, these characters are hidden adversaries, with several being monsters of the week, such as the Flatwoods Monster from episode 2.. Taro and Hana are equally unusual, but they break the mold. Still, with voice credits including Ryūzaburō Ōtomo, the voice of One piece Crocodile portraying a sumo-themed alien in Dan, Dan, makes every next episode a pleasure to imagine. It also facilitates sales with Dan Da Dan rapidly growing fan base.
Mayumi Tanaka Easily Adds Dan Da Dan to Successful Roles
A historical CV gains additional prominence
I have many fond memories associated with Mayumi Tanaka’s voice credits from decades past Dan Da Dan. She played many other characters before and after I was actively following One pieceincluding Yu Yu Hakusho King Enma Jr. (or Koenma), Krillin since the original Dragon Balland even Pazu from my favorite Ghibli film, Castle in the sky. But with Dan-Dan regularly topping fall 2024 anime lists for both My anime list and Anitrendz and Tanaka providing such a vital voice role, This is another immense credit that will certainly be added to the “best known for” section.
Playing Turbo Granny, a vengeful spirit with a compassionate side for many tragically unhappy young women in Dan-Dan It’s an excellent draw for One piece anime fans and viewers in general. With Mayumi Tanaka regularly recognized among the most famous voice actors in history thanks to a long and successful career, it’s an exciting pivot. At the same time, One piece takes a much-needed break for the manga to catch up and for the quality to remain at the latest levels. However, another benefit Dan Da Dan success is evident in One piece absence.
One Piece’s hiatus allows big anime like Dan Da Dan to gain prominence
Not “Goodbye”, but “See you later”
Knowing that I still have a lot to do One pieceAdmittedly, I’m more relieved than others to have a six-month break until April 2025. Dan-Dan is easily the most modern and wildest anime of the seasonwith other stellar series just below on the charts and also worth discussing. One piece The hiatus, for those who follow it closely, is an opportunity to explore the vast offering of shōnen anime, other action-packed series such as Dan-Dan for extraordinary introspective shōnen stories like Blue Box.
One piece will be back, and until then, Dan-Dan It will have long since completed its first season of twelve episodes and, in all likelihood, will be renewed until it adequately adapts its entire manga. There’s always something new to watch besides Dan-Danincluding new Ground Leveling episodes in January or the incredibly promising Sakamoto Days for those who can’t go without a dose of Shonen Jump. But to get so many One piece voice actors like Dan-Dan already in its first season, it excites me to dive head first into both.
