Dale suffers a brutal fate after walking through the distant bottle tree

It doesn’t work as he hoped

After hearing Tabitha’s story, Dale (Cliff Saunders) tries to replicate her escape from the city by walking into the same remote tree with the bottles hanging from it. As Victor (Scott McCord) tells Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) in season 1, distant trees are unpredictable and rarely send a person or object to the same place twice. Dale learns the hard way, as he isn’t transported to the lighthouse like Tabitha was and instead ends up at the side of the town’s motel pool.

Dale dies before Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) is able to give him a more merciful death. What happens to Dale is consistent with the unpredictable nature of the distant trees and Proving that the way Tabitha escaped cannot simply be repeated.. It also proves Boyd’s point that rushing to the distant tree was a foolish idea. For now, no one will be escaping the town again, and they are stuck with the monsters and even more nefarious threats.

The townspeople are disappointed Tabitha didn’t do more

They are quick to blame you

Dale’s rash and ultimately deadly decision to go through the distant tree was Caused by the residents’ widespread disappointment that Tabitha did not do more to find help when she was in Camden, Maine. She tries to explain that no one would believe her, and Henry backs this up by saying that he didn’t even believe her, and he was only convinced because of the unique circumstances surrounding his family’s long-ago disappearance. Nevertheless, many of the other characters, especially Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori), are devastated by the lack of results.

In Fatima’s case, she directs her anger at Tabitha, emphasizing that this could have been their only chance to escape and find help, and now it is wasted. actually, Fatima’s reaction is not really about her anger at Tabitha as much as it is about her pregnancy And the alarming cravings she had in her ofs most disturbing storyline. Boyd is one of the few who doesn’t give in to despair and instead tries to use Tabitha’s experience as proof that escape is possible, but even he can do little to soften the hopelessness setting.

Alice learns about what Fatima has to eat

Her diet is no longer a secret

After the town meeting, an upset Fatima goes to eat some nasty crops. The problem is that Ellis (Corteon Moore) goes to Fatima to try and comfort her and express his support, only for her to confirm that there is nothing he can do to help. This Leads to Fatima tearfully revealing that she is eating rotten crops And that she thinks there is something wrong with the baby. The rest of the conversation is not shown, but she will presumably also share about consuming Nikki’s blood.

Fatima won’t be as alone in her struggle now that Ellis is aware of what was going on, but it won’t fix the problem. Ellis trusts Christy (Chloe van Landschoot) and her medical expertise, which has saved him and many of ofs best letters of death and painful suffering. What’s going on with Fatima is beyond Kristi’s expertiseAlthough, and is part of the town tormenting and targeting Fatima and Alice in a way that hurts them the most.

Victor and Henry reunite

Both characters really needed this

While episode 5 is mostly uncomfortable, One of the few bright spots is seen Victor reunited with his father for the first time in decades. Victor spends most of the episode trying to avoid the reunion because he’s afraid of how his father will look at him after all this time. When they eventually cross paths in the town, Victor learns that he has nothing to worry about as he and his father embrace and have a heartwarming reunion after decades of believing they would never see each other again.

Seeing the reunion actually happen is immensely satisfying and much-needed for both of these long-suffering characters.

Since Henry was revealed to be Victor’s father in of Season 3, Episode 1, the series has been building to this reunion. Seeing the reunion actually happen is immensely satisfying and much-needed for both of these long-suffering characters. Given the deceitful and manipulative nature of the town, it’s still hard to trust Henry completely, even with how kind and generous he was, but The reunion with Victor makes it difficult to argue that Henry is not who he says he is.

Julie and Elgin bond and find a camera

They are able to briefly be normal teenagers again

Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) chooses not to attend the town meeting at the diner and instead goes to Colony House to take some of Fatima’s marijuana for herself. She runs into Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons), who also chooses to stay behind at Colony House. They both smoke marijuana and enjoy some much-needed camaraderie with people their own age. They find some old clothes and try them on, but arguably The most exciting part of Julie and Elgin’s time together is the discovery of a Polaroid camera.

They enjoy fooling around with the camera and taking pictures of each other. Although the discovery is harmless for now, it will likely be important in future episodes, with the camera possibly picking up details hidden from the human eye. The episode ends on a happy note for Elgin and Julie, but unfortunately, The city never lets anyone stay happy for long. An amazing revelation, whether it’s disturbing, useful or a combination of both, will inevitably come from the camera.

Julie says she still hears screaming in her head

The worst may not be completely behind you

During her time with Elgin, Julie admits that even though her being possessed seemingly ended during the of Season 2 ending, she still hears screaming in her head. The marijuana is meant to help with this, along with the many other traumas and stressors consuming you. Julie is no longer screaming and yelling as her eyes roll into the back of her headBut the effects of what she endured are still there, and are not as defeated as they seemed.

This episode isn’t the first in season 3 to suggest this. Earlier outings hinted at it with Randall (AJ Simmons) seeing the cicadas, which was part of him being possessed alongside Julie in season 2. Christy’s partner and fellow nurse, Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), was the third and final member of The possessed trio survived after Boyd smashed the music box. Marielle seemed to be fine this season, though If Julie and Randall are still affected by it, there may be more going on with Marielle than meets the eye..

2

Boyd shot down Acosta

He was not going to be her friend

After the town meeting, Acosta goes to see Boyd at the sheriff’s station. She thanks him for standing up for her at the meeting and talks about the importance of keeping the residents focused on something else in order to avoid widespread panic. Boyd does not respond well to Acosta trying to make a connection with himBecause he emphasized that he did not represent her in the meeting, that he blames her for Nikki’s death, and almost let Tabitha and Henry, and she has no right to tell him how to run the town.

Acosta misinterpreted Boyd trying to keep the peace as he offered a hand to herBut it is not surprising that she tried to build this connection. It is currently unclear what Acosta’s role will be, although she has the potential to be a wild card because she is not close to anyone, and is treated as a social pariah. This may lead her to make more reckless decisions that endanger the lives of others, or she may try to atone for her past mistakes by proving to be helpful.
