The next Star Wars: New Jedi Order film, which features the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, lost Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight. Announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration, Rey’s imminent return delighted fans of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, whose proposal caught the attention of Lucasfilm and also won over Ridley; Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight was hired to write the script.
A new report from Disc News reveals a disturbance in the Force, with Steven Knight leaving the project. “Knight was enlisted last year after previous writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were also hired to much fanfare and later fell into a sarlaac pit,” Report from Puck News. “Lucasfilm is now looking for a new writer for New Jedi Order, which almost certainly means the film won’t be ready until December 2026, the date Disney has set for Star Wars’ release.“
