When speaking with BBC the only programRidley reveals what it means for her to return as Rey after half a decade or more, explaining the difference between her approaches then and now. Ridley reminds the audience that she was only 21 when she debuted as Rey, and now that she’s older,”it’s a little different.” She goes on to say that “the idea of this is very different,” because although she doesn’t always necessarily feel older than she was, she is. The experience is like that “something I know, but also something new.”
What Rey’s return means for Star Wars
She’s more important to the franchise now than ever
Ridley’s return as Rey is highly significant for the franchise, and because of Ridley’s experience during the sequel trilogy, she is ready to take on this weight of responsibility. She handled Rey’s reaction (and continues to) with absolute gracesomething she was able to do from a young age – even if it had an impact on her health at the time. Ridley already appears to be in a much better position with Star Warsand considering the fact that Rey is now the face of Star Wars cinematic future, this is a wonderful sign of things to come.
Our opinion on Rey’s return
It’s much more than it might seem
The importance of Rey’s return truly surpasses anything audiences may currently be thinking. It is much more than a simple continuation of a story; Rey and her future are changing the Star Wars history as we know it, branching out this saga in entirely new ways that will undoubtedly go far beyond the Skywalkers’ own history. She has the chance to truly transform the way Star Wars evolves from this point forward, moving from Palpatine and his Galactic Empire to protecting the galaxy from other forces. Rey is literally defending Star Wars next great era.
It’s one thing to come back Star Wars past, as viewers will eventually learn how these past events shaped the Star Wars timeline covered in episodic films. Going into the future, however, is bold, fresh and new as it is completely unexplored and unexplored territory. Rey being the face of this future is absolutely exciting as she still has connections to her past – but not the kind that would hinder the creative process. It will be wonderful to see Rey once again in Star Warsand it’s even more promising that Ridley is ready for it too.
