Daemon and Aemond battle atop their dragons in brutal art

House of the Dragon Fan art imagines the looming showdown between Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell). With each of them on opposite sides of the war between the green and the black, and the many parallels between the two characters, a battle between them is inevitable and has been constantly building since season 1. The tension is ready to boil over in House of the Dragon Season 3 follows Daemon’s renewed loyalty to Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Aemond is told how he will die.

While perched on their dragons in art created by @rui_goncalve_art and posted on Instagram, Daemon and Aemond finally have their long-awaited fight. Check out the art below:

In the second image, Daemon’s dragon, Caraxes, can be seen sinking his teeth into Aemond’s dragon, Vagar. While Vhagar is the largest living dragon, Caraxes seems to have gained the upper hand as he sinks his teeth into Vhagar’s flesh, potentially giving Daemon the victory over his nephew.

What the fan art means for House of the Dragon Season 3

Aemond is doomed to fail

As the artist clarifies in the caption, the images do not spoil what will happen when Daemon and Aemond finally collide, and is instead what they imagined would happen before they collided. Based on what happened in the previous seasons, including in House of the Dragons season 2 ending, that’s a feasible outcome. Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban) tells her brother that she saw a vision of him dying While flying above the God’s eye.

The fan art depicts a potential version of Aemond’s foretold death, with Caraxes killing Vagar, and the death of the dragon sending Aemond to meet his fate in the God’s Eye below. Although Aemond is a formidable and cunning individual, he can also be impulsive and short-sighted. Daemon is older and more experienced and may be able to exploit these weaknesses against his nephew, allowing him and Caraxes to ultimately triumph over Aemond and Vhagar.
