Courtney Cox clarifies whether she is officially returning for Shout 7 And shares her excitement for the upcoming installment. As Sidney Prescott actor Neve Campbell is returning for the movie after sitting out 2023’s Shout 6It’s widely assumed that Cox will too, marking her seventh time playing Gale Weathers. In March, it was reported that Cox was in talks to return, but nothing official came yet. Shout 7 will be directed by Kevin Williamson, who helped kickstart the franchise by writing the original Wes Craven-directed movie.
Now, while talking to Variety In one event, Cox said, “I am not officially signed. I’m not, but it will be a ‘Scream 7’.“ However, this is not a case of the previous reports being untrue, as the actor also stated, “They are rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on“, indicating that she has been kept in the loop and is still likely in negotiations. Cox also spoke enthusiastically about what’s to come with Williamson, adding, “You can’t get better than this choice. It will be fun.“
What Cox’s update means for Scream 7
Gale’s return is still likely
So far, the development of Shout 7 was far from easy. After the slasher franchise was successfully relaunched with a new creative team and largely new cast in 2022, more movies were a foregone conclusion. But, still Spyglass fired Melissa BarreraThe franchise’s new leading lady, over pro-Palestinian social media posts, SCream 7 entered a limbo state. Then director Christopher Landon later stepped aside, and Barrera’s screen sister Jenna Ortega confirmed that she would not return either.
With the news that Campbell and Williamson have both returned, Shout 7 Got a buzz of excitement, and Cox’s return would only increase that. While Cox’s return isn’t a done deal, it still seems very likely that she will eventually be on the cast list. Cox is the only screen cast member to appear in every SCream Movie so far, and It would probably take something drastic to prevent her from returning for the seventhEspecially with Campbell and Williamson involved. Her comments indicate that she is still updated on the movie’s progress, which means her negotiations are ongoing.
Our take on Cox’s Scream 7 update
The studio would be foolish not to bring Cox back
Although it was eventually a critical and financial success, Shout 6 was heavily scrutinized due to Sidney’s absence, and it didn’t help that Campbell chose not to return because she was not offered a suitable deal. Her appearance in Shout 7 is celebrated as a horror legend who gets the respect she deservesAnd so it would be disappointing if it then ended up losing its other iconic female star.
Shout 7 is already a frustrating project due to Barrera’s firing, but Cox’s return could help keep the series on track. If the movie can not focus on the two leads audiences have recently loved – Sam (Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Ortega) – it should pay the first two final girls of the series the respect they deserve. A scenario where Sidney and Gale teaming up to defeat the last Ghostface would certainly be an exciting and satisfying plotEspecially if they are the only returning cast members. Only time will tell how Shout 7 shakes out.
