If he was, Costner and/or Paramount would have made a big deal about his appearance. Episode 11, “Three Fifty-Three”, never shows John’s face entirely, and for good reason, because the man on screen is not Costner. The team uses strategic camerawork to ensure that the audience is convinced they are watching John on screen, despite the actor who played him being unavailable during filming of the episode.

Perhaps Costner’s stunt double will return in future episodes of yellow stone Season 5 Part 2, but fans shouldn’t expect full scenes with John. Without Costner (or the series recasting the character), episodes cannot feature new scenes with John fully shown.
