Debuting in 1999 in the United Kingdom Bob the Builder follows the titular construction worker as he teams up with his anthropomorphized equipment to teach youngsters crucial problem-solving skills. With the familiar catchphrase “Can we fix this? Yes we can!“, Bob and Friends didn’t take long to cross the pond, becoming one of the most famous children’s programs of the new millennium.
Over the course of its original long run and continued in a series of spinoffs, TV movies, and reboots, the popularity of Bob the Builder has not diminished and is still a viable franchise. Although the 2015 CGI reboot received some criticism for its stark departure from the original, it still managed to last three seasons before ending. The property was sold to toy giant Mattel in 2011 and, following the Barbie the film’s resounding success, Bob the Builder is the latest in a long line of Mattel products making their way to the big screen.

Bob the Builder movie cast
Anthony Ramos stars as Bob
The cast for Bob the Builder the film is quite thin and the only name attached is Anthony Ramos (In the heights) who will star in the film as Bob. Ramos’ version is a Latin reimagining of the character, who is being tentatively referred to as Roberto in early publications about the new film. While Jennifer Lopez is attached as a producer on the project, no word has been released on whether she will also step in and voice a role. Since the film is a reimagining, It’s unclear whether any of the series’ other familiar characters will appear..
The story of the film Bob the Builder
Bob goes to Puerto Rico in the new reimagining
Details about the film’s plot are virtually nonexistent at this point, and the only thing known about screenwriter Felipe Vargas’ story is that will take place in Puerto Rico. Since Bob the Builder is an early childhood series that focuses on key developmental skills, it’s not exactly clear how a big-budget film will be able to integrate these ideas.
Because the film is a large project, Bob’s story will need to be much larger than the usual issue-of-the-week format that has made the series so successful. If the adaptation is competing for nostalgia rather than learning, it could take Bob on an exciting adventure and up the ante. The most likely outcome for the Bob the Builder film is that the character will find a balance between both, just as PAW Patrol: The Movie.
Bob the Builder is an upcoming animated film based on the children’s television series. Set as a contemporary reimagining, Bob the Builder will follow Roberto (Bob) as he heads to Puerto Rico for construction jobs and learns about new cultures while improving his construction skills.
