Although Jeri Ryan's former Borg drone, Seven of Nine, only spent four years on the USS Voyager, the rich history of the Star Trek: VoyagerThe emerging character of was revealed through flashbacks and dialogue. Each season of Star Trek: Voyager revealed more about the story of Seven of Nine before Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) USS Voyager crew freed Seven from the Borg Collective. Previously, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) could only be separated from the Collective because he was Locutus for a few days, but Seven of Nine spent most of his life as a Borg drone.
Seven of the Nine began life as Annika Hansen, a human born on the Tendara colony in 2344 to civilian scientists Erin and Magnus Hansen. Decades before the Federation's first official contact with the Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2, Episode 6, "Q Who", the Hansens suspected that the cybernetic species existed. Erin and Magnus brought Annika with them on the USS Raven's planned 3-year mission to confirm the existence of the Borg. When Annika was just four years old, the USS Raven followed a Borg cube through a transwarp conduit and emerged in Star TrekDelta Quadrant.
Annika Hansen was assimilated by the Borg and became Seven of the Nine (2350-2374)
Seven of the tragic first years of Nine's lives were told in Star Trek: Voyager Flashbacks
Annika Hansen and her parents were assimilated by the Borg in 2350, after a few years of successfully escaping the Borg while collecting data on them. The Hansen parents were pressed into service as Borg drones, and six-year-old Annika was placed in a Borg maturation chamber. For five years, Annika's body was prepared for the process of total assimilation and stripped of individuality. At eleven years old, the entity formerly known as Annika Hansen received the designation Seven of Nine, Tertiary Deputy of Unimatrix 01. Over the next 19 years, Seven of Nine assimilated millions of other life forms.

Even early on, Seven of Nine faced challenges to its assimilation. In 2368, Seven of Nine was one of four drones that were temporarily separated from the Collective. As Seven was assimilated while her body was still developing, Seven's human identity did not reassert itself at this time. Seven of Nine was appointed as the Collective's representative during Captain Kathryn Janeway's negotiations with the Borg in 2374.as Janeway refused the temporary assimilation that would make communication more efficient. The Borg plot to assimilate Voyager using Seven failed, so the Collective rejected Seven of Nine.
Seven of the nine joined the crew of the USS Voyager (2374–2378)
Seven of the nine were “reborn” on the USS Voyager
After being freed from the Borg Collective, Seven of Nine joined the crew of the USS Voyager, but Seven's integration into it "new collective"was not easy. Seven of Nine and Captain Janeway often disagreed on both philosophy and procedure, while Janeway's pressure also helped Seven learn to assert her own individuality. Unlikely friendships with Voyager's Emergency Doctor Hologram (Robert Picardo) and young Naomi Wildman (Scarlett Pomers) helped Seven of Nine rediscover her humanity. Voyager's encounter with immature Borg drones, including Icheb (Manu Intiraymi), made Seven a in fact maternal figure, as Seven learned to care for others.
Seven of Nine's four years with the crew of the USS Voyager proved that a Borg drone could be rehabilitated. Instead of denying your past, Seven used her knowledge to give the crew of the USS Voyager a fighting chance against the Borg. Seven of the nine built and operated Voyager's new astrometric laboratory with Ensign Harry Kim (Garrett Wang), helped Lieutenant Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) build the Delta Flyer, and contributed Borg nanoprobes to technological solutions. When the USS Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant in 2378, Seven did not share the crew's enthusiasm, because Earth had never been home to Seven of the Nine.
Seven of the nine became a Fenris Ranger and met Admiral Picard (2379–2399)
Starfleet's rejection of seven of the nine led to a backup Fenris Ranger plan - and a new crew
In 2379, Seven of the Nine joined the Fenris Rangers, a peacekeeping force that helped people near the Romulan Neutral Zone. The Rangers were a backup option, as Seven's application to Starfleet sponsored by Janeway was rejected. Unlike Seven, teenage ex-Borg Icheb was accepted into Starfleet, likely because Icheb had not matured into a full drone before being released. For the next 20 years, Seven worked with the Fenris Rangers to help the people in the Beta Quadrant. In 2386, Icheb was brutally attacked for his Borg implants by a black market dealer named Bjazyl (Necar Zadegan), and Seven was forced to mercy kill Icheb.
In 2399, Seven of the Nine met Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of La Sirena when they were both tracking Bjayzl. Seven helped other former drones - now known as xBs - from the Borg Recovery Project and reconnected with the crew of La Sirena on Coppelius. Captain Cristóbal Rios (Santiago Cabrera) gave La Sirena to Seven of Nine for use with the Fenris Rangers for a year, during which time Seven's relationship with Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) began. In 2401, Seven traveled to 21st century Los Angeles with Picard's team to repair a corrupted timeline and considered his identity as xB.
Seven of the nine joined Starfleet and became captains of the Enterprise (2401–2402)
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Features Captain Seven's USS Enterprise-G Star Trek Show
In 2401, Seven of Nine was finally allowed to join Starfleet, thanks to receiving a field commission from Admiral Picard and society's slowly warming attitudes toward xBs. Extensive field experience with Rangers Fenris and Picard allowed Seven of the Nine to bypass the Academy and various Starfleet posts. As Commander Annika Hansen, Seven of Nine served as first officer to Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) of the USS Titan-A. Commander Seven - as she preferred to be known - trusted her instincts, protected her crew, and acted as a mentor to the Titan's junior officers, like Ensign Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharp Chestnut).
Commander Seven of Nine led the defense of the USS Titan-A against a new strain of Borg, aiding the Federation's survival against the combined efforts of Borg and Changelings. For leadership skills and valor when facing impossible circumstances, Captain Shaw recommended that Seven of the Nine be promoted to Captain. Captain Seven of the Nine was rewarded with said promotion by the former Star Trek: Voyager crewmate Captain Tuvok (Tim Russ) and command of the Titan-A - now renamed the USS Enterprise-G. Fan demand for Captain Seven of Nine story after Star Trek: Picard It's tall, but Star Trek: Legacy has not yet received the green light.
