Daniel and Johnny have "Some big obstacles"Onward to the Sekai Taikai

"There's a lot to unpack..."

Screen Rant: I'm excited to talk to you guys for Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2. So, Ralph and William, I'll start with you. At the end of part 1, we see that you have a very tenuous relationship heading into Sekai Taikai, but now we also see that Kreese is back and leading his own team. What can we expect from Daniel and Johnny's relationship in part 2, especially since Daniel is still conflicted about what he learned about Miyagi?

Ralph Macchio: I mean, they created huge obstacles for themselves. There's certainly some growth with Johnny and Daniel where they fell out at the end of 605, but they're holding back for the kids. This is kind of a step forward for them, putting themselves aside for the greater good. There is

William Zabka: They're still roommates in a hotel. This says a lot about how far these characters have come. [Chuckles]

Ralph Macchio: Yes [chuckles]but they have a lot of unpacking to do to figure it out. Kreese and Tory are a punch in the gut for everyone. There is a lot to unpack and discover. Part 2 has its ups and downs, and certainly for Daniel, he ends up spiraling, chasing answers about who Miyagi could have been. The deeper he looks, the more trouble and real danger he becomes, and he takes his eyes off the prize. And then we have some epic martial arts, next-level stuff that our young cast does at Sekai Taikai, and the level of competition is higher than ever. Truly an epic conclusion to Part Two that should surprise you. So I'm excited.

William Zabka: Yes, and Kreese is the big bad. It's a chance for Miyagi-do to defeat Kreese once and for all on the world stage. Personally, for Johnny to finally defeat Kreese, all his chips are on the kids, and that means everything to him, because he doesn't want the kids to experience what he experienced after his defeat in '84, and fall down that rabbit hole.

Chozen has "Lots of unfinished business"In Your Mind in Part 2

Okumoto, however, guarantees that he will be focused on the tournament

Chozen preparing to fight in Karate Kid

Yuji, I'd like to talk to you next. We saw in part 1 that Chozen was really starting to reflect on his time with Kumiko and possibly fly to her to try and work things out. What can we expect from your mindset in this aspect, as well as in general from Sekai Taikai, heading into part 2?

Yuji Okumoto: Yes, there is a lot of unfinished business he has in Okinawa. I think he is still looking to find happiness, and I think that when we see what happens to him on his journey, he now realizes that the focus needs to be on the present, which is raising his children. I think when he realizes this, he focuses all his energy on making sure the kids are ready and prepared for this big world tournament. So, I think that's where his focus starts to go, in that direction.

Karate Kid: Legends Fulfills one of Macchio's biggest character goals

"...I think [it] will pay in dividends."

Ralph Macchio looks worried as Daniel LaRusso in Cobra Kai

So, Ralph, I really wanted to come back to you and talk briefly about the Karate Kid movie, because I'm so excited for this franchise to continue beyond the show. What can you tell me about why LaRusso is supposedly leaving for the East Coast, and how he interacts with Mr. Han and this new Karate Kid?

Ralph Macchio: Well, I can't go into detail about it at this point, but one of the choices I've made since 1983 has been to always play Daniel LaRusso truthfully, and honestly, even with all his flaws. He is a kind-hearted boy who was overcoming obstacles and had this wonderful mentor in Mr. Miyagi who became an important part of his life. And through Cobra Kai, continuing to play that truth, and even in Cobra Kai's storyline of unearthing who Miyagi could have been, and facing that when we get to part 3 of how that resolves, and playing that in all honesty.

So in the film, it's the same line for me. It's wanting to pay it forward, wanting to honor the legacy, wanting to do all the things that Miyagi-do and that your life, thus far, has brought you, and that's trying to help anyone find their balance and move forward. . So, therein lies some of the truth that I bring to this chapter of the franchise. It's the best I could do without giving away story points, because I would be in trouble right now, releasing part 2 of Cobra Kai. But it's about playing the truth, and that's important to me, and I think it will pay dividends.
