Lewis Tan as Sensei Wolf in Cobra Kai

Casting an actor like Lewis Tan is a clear sign that Sensei Wolf will not be one of the many martial arts instructors standing on the sidelines during the matches in the Sekai Taikai tournament. Clearly, the series has big plans for his character. What makes this so interesting is that Sensei Wolf does not represent either side in the overarching conflict. Rather, he will be representing a third party, which brings a sense of uniqueness to the Sekai Taikai. The closest the franchise came to circumventing this was the Cobra Kai Season 1 finale that introduced Topanga Karate’s Xander. However, Xander only appears in a single episode and other members of his dojo (including his sensei) are never highlighted as individual characters. Even so, this still went beyond The Karate Kid Movies’ tournaments and Cobra Kai Season 4’s iteration of the competition, where none of the other competing students were treated as if they had a chance. It was always clear that the fight would come down to the two main Dajons.

Cobra Kai’s focus on other dojos is exactly what the Sekai Taikai needs

Cobra Key should showcase the fighters of the other dojos

Such an approach makes sense, especially for an event of the Sekai Taikai’s scale. As a locally held event, the All Valley Karate Tournament casts a much smaller net, so little competition for Cobra Kai and Miyagi-do outside each other before the 6th season seems reasonable, but the Sekai Taikai is another case. So far, the main characters have only faced local fighters, and over time, both dojos have proven themselves – through championships – to be the best the Valley has to offer. Now that they have moved beyond the All-Valley, They have a chance to fight fighters at a similar – or higher – level to them.

… It needs to show that the other dojos are not just obstacles in the way of Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai and that they also deserve their right to be there.

To be true to the concept of a world tournament, it is imperative that Cobra Kai Fully demonstrate its weight. To do this, it needs to show that the other dojos are not just obstacles in the way of Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai and that they also deserve their right to be there. The casting of Lewis Tan and the others is a positive indicator that the show intends to take this course when the fighting starts Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2.

Decades after the events of the Karate Kid franchise, Cobra Key shifts gears and puts viewers in the perspective of a former competitor/antagonist, Johnny Lawrence. In his 50s and down on his luck, a chance encounter with a bullied young man leads Johnny back to karate. Agreeing to help him, Johnny takes the opportunity to revive his former home, the Cobra Kai Dojo – a haven for outcast teens.
