The Miyagi-Dos have finally arrived at Sekai Taikai, but they will face some of their toughest competitors yet. Cobra Kai season 6, part 2. Part 1 saw the team, a combination of Daniel’s Miyagi-Do and Johnny’s Eagle Fang, determining who would be their best fighters to compete in the world tournament. Meanwhile, Kreese returned to Master Kim Sun-Yung and Kim Da-Eun after escaping from prison and began building a new Cobra Kai lineup, eventually bringing in Tory in part 1, ending after his mother’s death.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 will see the titular Miyagi-Do dojo and Kreese arriving in Barcelona for the Sekai Taikai, the latter of whom is determined to finally put an end to Daniel and Johnny, while the former is surprised by their return and Tory is joining him while they are distracted by their own personal dramas. Despite the preparation, the competition proves to be fierce for both parties, especially with the arrival of the Iron Dragons led by the enigmatic Sensei Wolf.
Ralph Macchio and William Zabka return to lead the ensemble Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, cast as Daniel and Johnny alongside Xolo Maridueña as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby, Mary Mouser as Sam, Jacob Bertrand as Hawk, Peyton List as Tory, Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny, Vanessa Rubio as Carmen, Martin Kove as Kreese, Gianni DeCenzo as Demetri and Alicia Hannah-Kim as Kim Da-Eun. Also joining the group is the newcomer to the franchise and Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tan as Sensei Wolf.
In anticipation of the program’s premiere, Screen speech interviewed creators and showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg to discuss Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, the decision to bring Kreese back, including the difference of opinion over how brutal he was in his prison break, and the introduction of Sensei Wolf and the Iron Dragons.
Kreese’s chances of redemption are”Outside the window”
“…[he’s]showing them that they won’t get a happy ending.”
Screen Rant: It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other, guys! Excited to dive Cobra Kai Season 6, part 2, but I wanted to recap the end of part 1 very quickly. Kreese is in Sekai Taikai leading Cobra Kai, and Tory is back by his side. What was it like finding a way to bring him back for this big finals, as well as actually convincing Tory to come back to your side?
Josh Heald: We knew it would be an adventure to pick Kreese’s adventure for Season 6 because the last time we saw him, he was killing a hospital doctor and murdering some guards. [Laughs]
Jon Hurwitz: We don’t know if he murdered all those people. [Laughs]
Josh Heald: I think he murdered them all. But no, he broke out of a prison and walked into the night dressed like a maniac doctor. And then we track him down, he’s landing in Korea, so he’s resourceful. He is someone who has one goal now, and that is to destroy his enemies. Daniel and Johnny have informed him, in no uncertain terms, that they expect him to rot in prison for the rest of his life and that they have no love for him, so any hope of redemption is out the window. Kreese is determined to take them down and show them that they won’t get a happy ending. They won’t be able to have a conflict-free Sekai Taikai, he’ll show up and ruin everything for them. We just thought it would be a good stopping point for the final season to have that moment at the end of the first part.
Johnny will be”Unbalanced“With Kreese’s return
The villain of the OG franchise is back”With a revenge”
So obviously Kreese is going to shake up Danny and Johnny a bit, as well as Chozen, but given that Daniel is already kind of shaken up as he tries to figure out what’s going on with Mr. Secret Box, how will Kreese’s return affect how he trains? everyone and acts as a mentor to everyone, while Johnny also has to deal with the fact that his old mentor is back to ruin his hope for complete redemption?
Jon Hurwitz: Well, we saw in the first five how Kreese has this new Cobra Kai, and he’s teamed up with Kim Da-Eun, who he has a long history with, and he’s got some formidable fighters from Korea. So, he is excited to bring next level fighters to face the Valley fighters. As for Tory, he’s always had this kind of pure relationship with her, for the most part.
It’s almost like a grandfatherly relationship, even in season 5 when she was acting like a mole for him, staying inside Cobra Kai, and then he apparently abandoned her, he was doing it to protect her. He wanted to make sure she stayed away from his plans to break free. So bringing her back to the fold, he was taking care of her. In his opinion, he thinks it’s best for her to stay with Cobra Kai. And at the same time, he needed a captain that he felt was the best in the world, and he had that level of faith in Tory.
As for Johnny, he thought Kreese was a thing of the past. He was in prison, he escaped, but if he comes back, he will be thrown back there. So, there is no thought for Kreese. But by the time he shows up, at the end of the top five, Johnny is now coming in unbalanced in the middle five, because that sensei/father figure he has is now there ready to mess with him. And Daniel isn’t in his best place either. Then our senseis and our kids get that big punch in the gut when they see Tory, who they thought was their friend, now on the other side, and Sensei Kreese returning in full force.
Iron Dragons are like the Patriots of “It was Tom Brady”
“…will give Daniel and Johnny a run for their money.”
Another great element of the second part is that we have the introduction of the Iron Dragons. We get to see Lewis Tan’s Sensei Wolf. There is a lot of speculation and a lot of theories about how he could be linked to someone’s past in this series, but especially Mr. Miyagi. What was it like finding the most brutal new sensei for a new Dojo for Miyagi-Do to face in this final season?
Hayden Schlossberg: You know, one of the best parts of every season is introducing some new characters into the mix. We knew that going into Sekai Taikai we would meet all these characters from dojos abroad. And in our minds, we thought, “Well, there’s probably one dojo that’s the best of all, that gets beat year after year.” We jokingly, before we created the Iron Dragons, called them the Patriots, similar to the Tom Brady era. So we were trying to figure out, “Well, who is the Iron Dragons’ Bill Belichick, who is the Iron Dragons’ Tom Brady?”
Because these would be the new main characters who would be antagonists, not only of our heroes in Miyagi-Do, but also of Cobra Kai, Kreese and Kim Da-Eun. Just when you think it’s a showdown between these two dojos, you realize, “Wait a second, there’s a whole other dojo that wants to win this, plus several others.” When we wanted to discover Sensei Wolf’s character, Lewis Tan was highly recommended to us. He’s just that next level martial artist that will give Daniel and Johnny a run for their money.
